Conservative filmmaker and author Dinesh D'Souza received a full pardon from President Trump yesterday after pleading guilty to felony charges of violating campaign finance laws back in 2014.
From the beginning, D'Souza has argued the charges brought against him were politically motivated and used as a way to stifle his political activism against the Obama administration and the Left. Documents from the case back up this assertion and show Department of Justice prosecutors misled a federal judge in an effort to get D'Souza a harsher prison sentence.
Now, he's speaking out about the situation.
"I did not know. I was just in my office working away and the operator came on the line and asked 'Is this Dinesh D'Souza?' 'Yes.' 'Hold the line for the President of the United States' and there was Trump. He said, 'Dinesh, you've been a great voice for freedom,' and he said, 'I've got to tell you man-to-man you've been screwed. I've been looking at the case and knew from the beginning it was fishy." But he said upon reviewing it he felt a great injustice had been done and that using his power he was going to rectify it, sort of clear the slate and he said he wanted me to be out there to be a bigger voice than ever defending the principles I believe in," D'Souza said.
D'Souza went on to reveal no American in the history of the country had been charged, not to mention prosecuted, for doing what he did and said he believes Attorney General Eric Holder went after him for political purposes after he made a movie about President Barack Obama.
"These guys decided to make an example of me," D'Souza said. "This was a vindictive political hit aimed at putting me out of business. Destroying my credibility, making it impossible for me to make movies, write books. In that sense it failed."
Im very grateful to President Trump for giving me those rights back," he continued.
D'Souza also spoke out on Twitter Thursday when President Trump made the announcement about his pardon.

D’Souza: Obama’s Goons Tried to Destroy My Faith in America, Trump Restored It
Praise the Lord for giving us a reprieve from the godless liberal downfall of this country.
‘I’ve got to tell you man-to-man you’ve been screwed’
That’s why he’s such a great President. He gets it.
Can he sue the goons?
Nice
Trump did some great things yesterday, and to top it off, today the unemployment number is 3.8....
D’Souza was persecuted and prosecuted ONLY because of the effectiveness of his anti-liberal films.
No films, no charges.
Red lights and stop signs are for people that don't know how to drive.
Justice demands that Obama be arrested, tried and convicted.
They were just following orders...nothing personal.
Yes it does.
On May 20, 2014, D’Souza pleaded guilty in federal court to one charge of using a “straw donor” to make an illegal campaign contribution to a 2012 United States Senate campaign, a felony.[14][15] On September 23, he was sentenced to eight months in a halfway house near his home in San Diego, five years probation, and a $30,000 fine.[16][17]
......
On January 24, 2014, D’Souza was arraigned in a Manhattan federal court on charges of making $20,000 in illegal campaign contributions to the New York Senate campaign of Wendy Long, and for causing false statements to be made to the Federal Election Commission.[17][124][125][126][127]
In May 2014, D’Souza pleaded guilty to one felony count of making illegal contributions in the names of others.[128] In September 2014, the court sentenced D’Souza to five years probation, eight months in a halfway house (referred to as a “community confinement center”) and a $30,000 fine.[17][16]
D’Souza’s attorney had argued his client “did not act with any corrupt or criminal intent whatsoever” and described the incident as “at most...an act of misguided friendship”.[127][129] His co-producers alleged that the indictment was politically motivated retribution for the success of his 2012 movie 2016: Obama’s America.[101]
D’Souza’s claim of selective prosecution received support from some conservative media and commentators.[130] Aside from those, Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz felt that the prosecution was unfair: “The idea of charging him with a felony for this doesn’t sound like a proper exercise of prosecutorial discretion.... I can’t help but think that [D’Souza’s] politics have something to do with it.... It smacks of selective prosecution.” He went on to say such alleged campaign violations are common in politics.[131] In May, United States District Judge Richard M. Berman rejected that contention, stating, “The court concludes the defendant has respectfully submitted no evidence he was selectively prosecuted.”[132]
On May 31, 2018, President Donald Trump granted DSouza a full pardon, claiming on Twitter that the author/activist was treated very unfairly by our government.[18]
