I take Ambien..

.I took it several yrs ago when I worked long shifts and needed to sleep...

but I only took it on the nights of my work days and on those other nights, I was so wired that I couldn't sleep at all...

so I was off it for a few yrs...

I do have a new prescripton and I use it two nights a week....when I am fully retired, I expect not to use it at all...

these drugs are dangerous to use all the time...

I had no problems with it except being wired on the off nights...

Yes — in some people Ambien can induce somnambulism. I went on it for a while. When I couldn’t afford it, I tried nonprescription Benadryl which surprised me by working quite well for me and I stopped Ambien.

At the same time, it doesn’t really give anyone any inclination they already had. So the pharma company had a point. It’s kind of like a truth serum to some people.

Ambien is dangerous stuff. Most people think it is a “sleep aid”, because that is how it is marketed. It is not a sedative, though, it is a “hypnotic”. Rather than actually inducing sleep directly, it shuts off your higher, conscious brain function while allowing your lower, subconscious functions to keep working, at least for some time.

Basically it can put you in a state similar to a sleepwalker, or a blacked out drunk, rather than just putting you to sleep.
