The wireless industry is in a race to roll out 5G service. The network is supposed to be up to 100 times faster than current data speeds, but it requires cellphone tower equipment to be closer to users than before. Wireless companies in the U.S. say theyll have to install about 300,000 new antennas roughly equal to the total number of cell towers built over the past three decades. Thats causing outrage and alarm in some neighborhoods, as antennas go up around homes.

I rarely use 4G as WiFi hotspots are so prevalent.

IOW, it will start with urban areas and major highways, and eventually work its way to what we have with 4g now.
I remember those early coverage maps at the turn of the century.

This is the way to go, it has taken a long time because cable has so much invested in land lines (coax to building).

Luddites? Weaving machinery didn’t promote brain tumor growth. Phone antennas alone have proven to do so at repeated close range use, and their signal is a fraction of what 3G towers put out, let alone 5G.

For many years I lived in a dead zone for cell phone service. Then around 2-3 years ago, Verizon built a tower within 300 yards of my house.
Now I obviously get 5 bars or is it 4? Anyway all the way over.

If they’re gonna mount 5G antennas on light and telephone poles in our neighborhoods, wonder if they’re thinking about some security cameras as well? Hope not.

Perhaps we won’t have to wear coats any more. The microwaves will keep us warm.

Nah, they just want to listen to what you have to say.....soon those smart meters used for our electricity usage will be able to listen in on us.
I’m being sarcastic but nothing would surprise me anymore.

Well, not complaining. Making dinner will be a lot easier. I can get rid of the old microwave and plug my frozen dinner into my phone.

Sometimes the luddites are right. Those Romans whi had no use for that fancy new fangled pewter did better than those who drank wine from pewter.
