Poland Pushes For Permanent US Military Base, Offers Up To $2B

In order to have a permanent United States’ military presence in the country, Poland is willing to put in as much as $2 billion, a defense military proposal by the latter claimed.

The proposal comes a month before the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit begins in Brussels, and is another push in Poland’s desire to have American troops in the country. Poland has expressed this need since its entry into NATO in 1999; however, the current urgency is due to Russia’s annexation of the Crimea region.

“Following Russian invasions in Georgia and Ukraine, countries in Central and Eastern Europe are concerned that they are next in Moscow’s crosshairs,” the public document stated.

Regarding the need for American military, the document mentioned, “This proposal outlines the clear and present need for a permanent U.S. armored division deployed in Poland, Poland’s commitment to provide significant support that may reach $1.5-2 billion by establishing joint military installations and provide for more flexible movement of U.S. forces,” while adding it was willing “to share the burden of defense spending, make the decision more cost-effective for the U.S. government and allay any concerns for Congress in uncertain budgetary times.”

Polish news portal Onet, which first obtained the document, reported the ministry sent the proposal to the U.S. government, Congress and to American think-tanks.

Apart from detailed maps of the future military bases, schools, hospitals, etc., the document also revealed how the funds can be used, such as for the construction and renovation of social, communication and military infrastructure.

The disclosure of the document did not sit well with all.

Janusz Zemke, former Polish deputy defense minister, said: “Of course, these issues should not be public. In this case, one should also distinguish evidence from naivety...

Poland has certainly been screwed over by invading armies. Read Pat Buchanan and he’ll tell you it’s in Russia’s sphere of influence. Is it ok to let the fox guard the chickens. Polish brides would be beautiful. There are lots of Polaks in the U.S. military who would jump at the chance to be stationed there.

How about we shut down most of our presence in Germany and relocate to Poland.

Well, either that or take over the German government and kick the Nazis out...again. It's only a matter of time before they try to mount a full scale attack.

That's why we're there. Isn't it?

Its the same concept as having troops in Germany or Korea. They are "speedbumps" that would trigger a US response to a local attack.

It is primarily a deterrent to rational people and that is where it is problematic. Lil kimmy is a nutcase, Putin is just a blustery megalomaniac.

The true message would be sent to merkle and the euroweenies if we pull out the NATO $billions spent in their fifedoms and spent it in Poland instead.

My first thought is that Poland made a good move.
Then I remember that the US Army’s Commander in Chief has been the Kenyan usurper and could have been Hillary, I am wondering: hey Poles, you are good Christians and about the only true anti-communists and Islam realists left on Earth, do you really want that?

Poland wants to be friendly with the USA now more than ever with Donald J. Trump at President of the United States.

We are fortunate.

Two billion may be chicken feed but our military is pretty limited and stretched anyway.

I am deeply disappointed that the National Guard is not thickly deployed 60-thousand plus on our southern border in lieu of a real wall being built. (WHEN WILL IT BE BUILT?)

Instead we get the 600-plus trickle on the border, *iss Poor.

But at least if we did it, we would be in a country that would probably be grateful, unlike Germany.

Well, I suppose a lot of Germans were not fans of us kicking the snot out of them and occupying them - although it saved many of them from the worse fate of being completely conquered and occupied by the Soviets.

The Poles, on the other hand, got the snot kicked out of them and were occupied by both the Germans and the Soviets, so they have a different view of American troops on their soil.

How about we lift out of troops from S. Korea ?

Maybe half of the 25k ?

Move them back and forth occasionally.

If we stay in Nato and if we decide to keep troops in Europe....and I favor pulling them all out....then at the very least we ought to move them out of Germany and Belgium and other places like that in Western Europe and put them in Poland.

I see no reason why we need a military base in Europe. Let the Europeans defend themselves or get absorbed.

Poland Pushes For Permanent US Military Base, Offers Up To $2B

Given what has been happening to Germany and Europe in general, I would rather move our basis to Poland. At least they still have some common sense.

Why not just move the German bases? What has Germany done for us lately?

Besides is not Poland on the eastern border of NATO a better location for a military base?
