76 years now.
I once worked with a guy who was in the Navy, at Pearl Harbor, at the very same time you were there. He said it was very eerie to be cruising into Pearl Harbor while watching Japanese aircraft flying around.
Trump... “We’re going to repair the Arizona and Japan is going to pay for it!” (Humor intended)
Neglect from 28 years of stupid CoC’s and their minions. I expect Trump as CoC to change this neglect, and hire diligent, American-loving subordinates who will care for America’s and her relics.
I also went in 1979, with my Mom and one of my brothers, a Marine. It was solemn, until a loud group appeared. Everyone glared at them until they left. I wonder how often that happens.
Spoiling a perfectly good rant by injecting facts into the topic.
Thats surreal.
Isn’t there another battleship sunk near the Arizona?
Not in our lifetimes.
Just checked. You are correct. All were refloated and returned to service except Arizona. Oklahoma was lost being towed back to the US.
I’ve read that the superstructure of the Arizona above the water line was dumped somewhere in the Hawaiian jungle.
I visited a few times when I lived in Hawaii in 2010-11. There were more Japanese tourists than US citizens on each visit.
No. There were only 3 that couldn’t be put back into service. Arizona, Oklahoma, and Utah Oklahoma was towed back to the mainland in 1947, but, capsized before reaching land, and, Utahwhich was being used as target practice by the Americans and was already out of service.
Actually, Pearl Harbor, while a tactical defeat of the Americans, was a strategic defeat of the Japanese. They missed blowing up the tank farm, and, most of the ships hit were returned to service. Leyte Gulf was was a bit of revenge for that.
Wow...now that had to be a creepy feeling! Complete with planes flying overhead. Being a big fan of history, I learned about the national Socialists in Germany and the horrors they perpetuated throughout their reign ending with WWII. One year when I was at Carnaval in Brasil and one of the schools, Vai-Vai chose to do a theme on Nostrodamas. They decided to include Nazi like costumes complete with the swastika and marched down the stadium. It sent a chill down my spine and that took a lot because I LOVE Carnaval. I took photos thinking “I won’t see this again in my lifetime.” Now given the actions we now know of during the obama tyranny, I think it was a premature thought. I don’t know what happened to the photos but there is video on the web if it’s still intact.
Unlikely, as it’s about 212 miles from the volcano.
I suspect that incident qa while back where the prop wash from some ship maneuvering nearby caused much upheaval of the docking structure. It was closed for a while then.
...I wonder how often that happe...
Probably more often than you think.
Unfamiliar with the geography on the island, but might the volcano be somewhat to blame?
Remember, folks, the STATUE OF LIBERTY was closed, and the WASHINGTON MONUMENT closed down for repair to a crack for a period of time.
Our nation cracks in two both figuratively and personally.
This, in itself, speaks VOLUMES!
Not a battleship but some type of smaller ship, the Utah. Its on the northern point of Ford Island.
