True. One of the only portrayals of an AF FAC was in the sci fi Battle of Los Angeles. But I think the producers wanted a female warrior and an AF FAC was believable.

Whether or not Newsweek wrote this article, the story of the interservice bickering and jockeying has a ring of truth to it.

It is almost always at the higher levels and it gets pretty childish/ridiculous. I served for a while at the Pentagon so I saw many examples.

There should have been absolutely no reason at all for the Navy to oppose Sgt Chapman's recommendation for the Medal of Honor, given the evidence of his immense heroism on that mountain.

The Air Force, his family, and our country should be very, very proud to have raised men like him.

“marketing”

Exactly. Marketing. The USAF doesn’t have the PR the Marines, SEALs and others have. They don’t want it.

"Have we not seen enough total failure, decade in and decade out, ever since Viet Nam, in perpetuating these @ss#)1e wars? "

What is this, the local branch of the People's Coalition for Peace and Justice?

We fight wars all over the world because the little swine want to kill us here - and have done so. We have brave men and women serving in uniform to defeat these mindless butchers before they can get to your little burg and find you hiding under your bed.

P.S.; we lost in Vietnam because the folks listened to the home-grown defeatists/enemy sympathizers at home and gave up. I ought to know, since I was one of the good young men who fought and bled over there.

”USAF enlisted rarely receive medals”

Really? Had a young female enlisted airman sit across from me at a Staff NCO Academy graduation dinner wearing a Bronze Star medal for “supporting war effort” from her position in the Pentagon.

Seemed somewhat generous and made me wonder at the Air Force’s awards policies.

Yep I’m in the air force. I love when people joke about it. I just reply. I applied myself in high school and college so I could join the Air Force and enjoy my life while defending my country.

It’s impossible that the country could be without the Air Force. It’s just that enlisted ranks chevrons seems a tad confusing at first.

Thank you for your service.

Pretty simple actually. Navy is the oddball.

If you took the time to read the article you would see it was well researched and written. I also am no fan of Newsweek.

Inter-service bickering got in the way. I don’t believe for a second that Chapman was purposely left behind.

I agree. What a sad story.

Combat controllers are pretty bad ass but they don’t have the same marketing that the seals do.

Most people don't know this, but the Air Force does have a couple cool jobs.

- Pararescue

- Combat Air Controller

- A-10 Pilot

AC-130 Pilot
