Navy Seals Allegedly Left Behind a Man in Afghanistan. Did They Try To Block His Medal of Honor?

As the pre-dawn twilight crept over an Afghan mountainside, an Air Force commando named Jay huddled in the snow, listening to a distressed voice crackle over his radio, then fade away. Moments later, he says, the voice came again, breaking through the static in little more than an anguished whisper: “This is Mako Three Zero Charlie.... This is Mako Three Zero Charlie….” The same six words, over and over, each time dissipating before Jay could hear anything else.

Jay was part of an elite reconnaissance team operating behind enemy lines, and he immediately recognized the call sign and voice. They belonged to his counterpart on another team: Air Force Technical Sergeant John Chapman. From his hidden perch, Jay responded again and again on his powerful satellite-capable radio. But he received no reply. The voice continued for about 40 minutes, he says, like a plaintive mantra—“This is Mako Three Zero Charlie…. This is Mako Three Zero Charlie….” Then it fell silent. It wasn’t until the next evening that Jay learned Chapman had died, that he was the last American to hear him alive.

Today President Trump presented the Medal of Honor to a retired Navy Seal. Congratulations to Navy Master Chief Brit Slabrinski. Sitting on his desk is another Medal of Honor for Air Force Combat Controller Technical Sergeant John Chapman. TSgt John Chapman died in the same firefight. Both should have received the award year’s ago. Inter-service bickering got in the way. I don’t believe for a second that Chapman was purposely left behind. Slabrinski thought he was dead and had no time to retrieve his body because he was to busy trying to save the other members of his team. A grateful nation salutes them both.

“Inter-service bickering got in the way.”

Yeah, and the attitude of Obongo’s anti-military appointees had nothing to do with it.

These kind of stories bring tears to my eyes. The sacrifice they make for us, their dedication, courage and honor. In my mind they will always be alive in my memory.

Gob Bless all that serve us peons.

Nothing but solemn gratitude and affection for these brave men and their families. And for anyone who serves or served.

But when, when, can we get out of this insane business of trying to turn animals into humans in these worthless countries like Afghanistan? When can our military come home, we bar the door from immigration from these primitive and dark parts of the Earth, and just let them be as they have been for thousands of years.

It is what they want to be, is it not?

It is absolute insanity to pretend that we are accomplishing anything in any of these ridiculous wars.

For crying out loud, we the GOP have all branches of the government, can we please stop this Democrat senseless exercise of trying to Americanize animals across the globe? Can we just keep them out until they choose to modernize? Or hell, just keep them out forever. We have no earthly reason to want them here. They add nothing and will add nothing. They will detract only.

Have we not seen enough total failure, decade in and decade out, ever since Viet Nam, in perpetuating these @ss#)1e wars?

USAF enlisted rarely receive medals. It’s a sad situation that also feeds the armchair warrior reputation of the AF.

Some of the first and last boots on the ground are AF.

Believe any Newsweek article written about anything military is written with the most poisonous intent.

You are correct; TSgt Chapman was hit by enemy fire and went down; other SEALs and combat controllers saw no sign of movement and assumed he was dead. Only later, reviewing drone footage, did we determine that Chapman was still alive. He fought on, and killed at least one Taliban advancing on his position before he finally died. By that time, the rest of the SOF team had moved to another position due to enemy fire. Chief Slabrinski made the only call he could under the circumstances.

…………...I read most of what must have been ten pages about this battle.

I think it’s pretty clear that both Chapman and Slabinski deserved recognition for their unbelievable bravery.

I also think the Air Force got it’s panties in a wad because of not receiving a MOH since Vietnam.

I also believe Slab when he said he believed Chapman was dead.

Slab had living Americans to immediately focus on and had to make a quick decision. Maybe he was wrong, but he (and Chapman) still deserve the MOH.

Combat controllers are pretty bad ass but they don’t have the same marketing that the seals do.

Since you were there, tell us at least the unclassified part of what happened.

I wasn’t so I can’t comment on it one way or the other.

Thanks.

True. One of the only portrayals of an AF FAC was in the sci fi Battle of Los Angeles. But I think the producers wanted a female warrior and an AF FAC was believable.
