Tom Steyer Spends $2 Million To Force Renewables On Michigan Customers

Michigan residents will likely be paying more for their electricity after a well-funded ballot initiative prompted the state’s largest utilities to adopt higher renewable energy usage.

On Friday, DTE Energy and Consumers Energy — Michigan’s two biggest utility companies — announced a compromise with a ballot committee to dramatically increase their renewable portfolio standards. DTE and Consumers have agreed to establish a goal of at least 50 percent clean energy by 2030, which includes a pledge that 25 percent of their electricity sales originate from renewable sources by that same year. In return, Clean Energy, Healthy Michigan will essentially drop its campaign to require at least 30 percent of a provider’s electricity sales come from renewable energy by 2030.

The agreement raises the bar for electricity providers in Michigan. Under the state’s current mandate, utilities were expected to reach 15 percent renewable energy by the end of 2021.

they get their bottled water for free...

Always a mistake. The water will NEVER be good enough to get them to give up free bottled water.

Here in NorCal we have MCE! Marin Clean Energy (note: every $hitty idea in America starts in Marin County, California, home to that worthless harridan, Barbara, Call Me Senator, Boxer), it’s the same bucket of crap and Steyer is probably knee deep in it because Marin is where he lives. Pay a little more for “blended energy,” ( that’s PG&E generated with wind and solar) or you can agree to pay a lot more and have all your electricity come completely from “ renewables.” I just “opted out” and am staying with the power company. This is all such a load of crap.

I live in San Rafael, and thanks for the reminder of how our gas bills are presently put together. I’m going to have to take a good close look. Make sure I’m not paying more because of my ‘Energy Footprint’.

I didn’t know Tom Steyer was up in this area too.
Maybe he stays in someplace like Tiburon, Belvedere, Kentfield or Mill Valley; all places I could never afford to live in.

There is a wind turbine just north of the Grand Traverse Resort on U. S. 31 that I swear has never turned 1 RPM that I’ve seen.

Lee, if you've been co-opted into MCE, you can “opt out” at any time. All the local NorCal governments have been sucked into this boondoggle. We own commercial property in Napa, and live in Danville. In both places, the city governments have gone all in for MCE. Basically, MCE is a forced subsidy for solar and wind energy, neither of which are cost-effective. They basically are trying to “humble you” into paying a lot more for your electricity, and at the same time, damage PG&E's business. And now, we see that PG&E is selling off it's generating capacity and evolving into a distribution company. The big generating plant down in Moss Landing is no longer owned by PG&E. I race with guys who work down at the Diablo Canyon nuke plant, and they tell me that it's days are numbered.
All of it is nonsense, since the only rationale for electric cars is cheap power. It doesn't make any sense to charge your Tesla with electricity that's been produced by burning oil or natural gas. It would pollute the environment less if you just drove a regular car with all of it's emission controls.

Stayer lives in a Pacific Heights estate. He drives a Tesla. He has a personal trainer who lives and works in Marin so he is often there.
