And the I-Team found them in high-profile areas like outside the Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue and while driving across the 14th Street bridge into Crystal City. The I-Team got picked up twice while driving along K Street — the corridor popular with lobbyists.

"It looks like they don't consider us to be interesting, so they've dropped us," Turner remarked looking down at one of his phones.

Every cellphone has a unique identifying number. The phone catcher technology can harness thousands of them at a time.

DHS has warned rogue devices could prevent connected phones from making 911 calls, saying, "If this type of attack occurs during an emergency, it could prevent victims from receiving assistance."

"Absolutely. That's a worry," said D.C. Councilwoman Mary Cheh, adding that the spy technology should be a concern for all who live and work in the District.

The I-Team's test phones detected 40 potential locations where the spy devices could be operating, while driving around for just a few hours.

“But you can protect your calls and texts by downloading free calling and texting apps that use encryption instead of using the standard ones that come installed on your cellphone, he said.”

The government certainly is blase about all this, bad guys intercepting everyone’s cellphone calls.

Their biggest concern seems to be that this might keep you from connecting to 911.

The advice at the end of the article: use a landline.

I think you are still being tracked, though.

I carry two and get funny looks when I use them.

I suppose the Iphone users think I am up to some nefarious actions.

go to youtube. search: ez pass tracking.

It doesn't just speed up your toll payments, it keeps track of everywhere you drive.

The practice has been effect ever since the Florida Democrat couple using stuff from Radio Shack intercepted and recorded the phone calls of Newt Gingrich.

Had those two been slain, we would not be in the mess we are today

I have never believed that those two were capable of pulling that off. That recording was made by professionals and the tape and cover story given to them so they could “innocently” pass it on to their Dem congressman.

Besides the devices IN foreign embassies, what’s to stop a civilian from just walking up, disconnecting, and taking these devices?

I know a guy who works at a electronics company in the Pittsburgh PA. area and he told me he was making cell phone interception units. He says his company sells them all over the world.

Fear mongering. Stingrays aren’t needed or even useful for tracking. Accessing or buying call data records from the phone company will provide far more details.

It doesn’t just speed up your toll payments, it keeps track of everywhere you drive.

Out here California, many freeways have electronic signs telling you the average vehicle speed on the next leg of the road.

That is calculated from Ez Passes on the road.

We are constantly being surveilled with our Ez Passes and cell phones on our local and out of town roads supposedly for road traffic patterns.

A company out of the Silicon valley does this. It is amazing how they will survey our phones and ez passes from our homes for an entire trip from our driveways to where we went and back. Have that posted on tv news and newspapers. Then, no one brings up any concern about this surveillance.

CDR’s cheap and easy... basically the same as mainframe SMF records ... considered so reliable that they can’t really be successfully challenged in court.
