Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a directive to immigration judges Thursday telling them they can no longer shunt deportation cases off onto permanent wait lists and leave illegal immigrants free to roam the U.S.
Known as administrative closure, the wait list had become a favorite tactic of the Obama administration, serving to protect low-priority illegal immigrants from deportation.
Rather than pursue those cases, government attorneys would propose and judges would grant administrative closure by shipping more than 200,000 cases to the suspension list in what analysts said became a de facto amnesty.
Mr. Sessions, flexing his attorney general powers, ruled Thursday that the policy rested on shaky legal ground. He issued a precedent telling judges to decide the cases in front of them rather than rely on administrative closure.
No attorney general has delegated such broad authority, and legal or policy arguments do not justify it. I therefore hold that immigration judges and the Board [of Immigration Appeals] lack this authority except where a previous regulation or settlement agreement has expressly conferred it, Mr. Sessions said in his decision.
The ruling could, in the short term, speed up deportation decisions on the children and families that have surged into the U.S. over the past five years.

Thank you, Mr. President.
Let us all live long enough to see Obama and his foul, treacherous legacy ground into the ash heap of history. And perhaps, him awaiting his just punishment in a jail cell.
(Sessions is still awake)
Thank you Mr. Sessions
Give it time and watch the media squirm over Trump.
You notice now the left does not have to move a muscle.
The media will swarm when need be to their cause and keep the players out.
The cause of the media is weird to me. They own themselves and the DNC but to what end?
Destruction of a Republic?
Those people on the other side are genuinely afraid! They are terrified of Trump and what he represents. I mean absolutely terrified. We are overjoyed with him, but they are just plain scared of him.
I dont know where this comes form unless it is some kind of remnant remembrances passed down from the generations of the Nazis and militant Japs of WW II and there monstrous crimes.
Maybe it’s like how my parents were, (Teens and preteens during the Great Depression). They could never let go of the feelings of “scarcity” and not allowing themselves to “waste” anything. Maybe this fear of Trump has been “passed down” from their memories and their parents memories of that era.
That’s a tough one.
Trump transcends all measures. I’m to darn sleepy to give it a good response.
Donald Trump is a powerful man, it isn’t money, it isn’t fame, it is PERSONA. Not many have that.
It turns out that his ideals matches my ideals.
Trump Wins!
There is something really special about Trump. I tend to believe there is divine intervention involved.
I think you are right.
He has come here more than once for guidance.
The position in life is very hard.
This is why the GOP asked.... Is he Serious?
They knew.
More stuff that should have been done on day one.
I think they fear because they have been force fed socialism, communism their entire lives. Look at Obama, that is all he was ever taught, in the home and out. How much Constitution and true American history have they not been taught.
Woodrow Wilson and others of that era did not have the Nazis and Japanese experience and witnessed the Bolshevik Revolution and Marxism/Communism. But they did not reject it. It is simply a rejection of truth.
Hooray! Good job Mr. Sessions. Credit where due. He has been mostly frustrating for me, but no doubt he has done some good things and this is a great thing. Well done.
Shouldn’t be any court. You pick them up and send them back.
I get the feeling, from personal experience with family and others I know who came of age during the 1960s and 1970s, that particularly back then, there was the sense of things involving government and politics and elsewhere being that very idealized and structured and overall sense of being able to do anything. Sure you can complain about the government (a national pastime in my country, of course), but the last thing you’d ever do would be to cut back on it.
That’s likely that very important reason why they hate Trump (as they did with Reagan and Thatcher) and why I had to hear family members carry on with their anger towards Canadian conservative politicians like Stephen Harper or Mike Harris or Stockwell Day or the late Ralph Klein even.
Ill give credit where its due.

Deportation hearing? Why in the F*CK do we have hearings?
CBP Agent: Did you enter the country illegaly?
Illegal Alien #1: No habla ingles. CBP Agent: Get on the bus
Illegal Alien #2: says nothing CBP Agent: Get on the bus
Illegal Alien #3: Yes, but, but, but(in heavy accent) CBP Agent: Get on the bus
Illegal Alien #4: Yes, but I’m requesting asylum because I’m scared CBP Agent: Get on the bus
Illegal Alien #5-9(pregnant woman w/ 4 kids: She isn’t asked any questions, she is put in an SUV and driven to the border as fast as possible, with lights and sirens, and sent back to ensure that those kids never enter an American school and she doesn’t give birth in an American hospital.
Absolutely, no need for immigration judges or the shyster lawyers that represent the illegals.
Good. Now put an ICE agent at every polling place in America, and watch how badly the dems lose a popular election.
I view AG Sessions as methodical and very careful about the law. There seem to be next to no leaks out of his department anymore. Perhaps a large part of the delay we saw involved time and resources needed to drain that swamp.
Why has it taken 18 months to issue this directive? Anyone know why it could not have been done on day 2?
I'm willing to give Granny Jeffe his due but this was 5 minutes worth of work. This could have been slipped in between his morning apple sauce and his noon oatmeal, yet it took more than a year!
