The Times is out with a story detailing how a) Vice President Mike Pence and his advisers are operating as a sort of de facto political unit within the White House and b) allies of President Donald Trump are none too happy about that fact.
Heres the key paragraph:
Republican officials now see Mr. Pence as seeking to exercise expansive control over a political party ostensibly helmed by Mr. Trump, tending to his own allies and interests even when the presidents instincts lean in another direction. Mr. Pence and his influential chief of staff, Nick Ayers, are unsettling a group of Mr. Trumps fierce loyalists who fear they are forging a separate power base.
None of this should be all that surprising. Heres why:
1.Pence, a former House member and governor, is very much a party guy. Trump, who has been an independent and now a Republican, ran against and beat that establishment in 2016.
2.Pence wants to be president when Trump is done, and that means he is spending at least part of his time as VP accruing chits from other pols for future use. Trump is already president.
3.Pence has surrounded himself with political people. Trump has no such political team in place, largely surrounding himself with longtime advisors, friends and a smattering of military generals.
Regardless of whether he should have seen it coming, you can bet Trump wont be happy to read the Times piece about Pence or, more accurately, to watch the cable news coverage about it. Trump doesnt like when anyone one-ups him.
The Point: Politics abhors a vacuum. Trumps seeming disinterest in anyones politics other than his own create an opening for Pence. The question is whether he can take advantage without seeming like he is taking advantage.

Well stated.
If Pence won in 2024 it would make him the 2nd sitting VP to be elected president since Martin Van Buren. Bush the elder was the first.

So much pissing and moaning...
Wow. That puts a strong perspective on things.
Thanks.
I’m not interested in Pence for President.
That makes two of us.
GHWB v.2.0
No thanks.
DJT told us he chose Pence because he needed someone familiar with the in’s and out’s of D.C....a working knowledge, what DJT did not have. That was his stated reason.
I like Mike! :)
I love vp Pence, am very pleased with him, and wish him success
bump
Fake News. Sure, Pence might want to eventually run for president, most VP’s do.
Yes - anything to try to paint a picture of discord between trump and anyone....I haven’t seen/heard Pence doing anything but wholeheartedly backing Trump up...if he does what most others have done and plans to be positioned to run in 2014, I have no problem with it——who knows who else might be waiting in the wings....
“Im looking at MIKE POMPEO.”
Good one. Someone else who’s caught my attention is Mick Mulvaney. I don’t know much about him overall, but his interaction with the media, etc., is very Trump-ish and I appreciate that.
We seem to easily identify the same traits that are critical for leadership through the coming peril for the USA, or, if God allows Trump outright victories, then keep the ground he has won.
Pence. No, imho. We must return to MEN willing to plant a foot, fearlessly, against evil forces WHOM the military can trust. It is they who will be charged with keeping security “on the wall”.
What a TICKET! POMPEO-MULVANEY.
Fair enough.
But I don’t have any issue with Pence preparing for his shot, and I’d expect President Trump wouldn’t either, so long as he supports Trump’s agenda and remains transparent.
Agreed, Pence is just doing what any other VP in the same position would do. AFAIK, he has been 100% supportive of DJT and his agenda.
I probably would not vote for him for President. I find his close friendship with Flake, Ryan, and other “viles” suspicious. The global elites’ lackeys seem to love him. That’s a red flag for me. We sure don’t want to return to what we had before.
IMO, we need a strong, passionate patriot who will aggressively keep pushing until we restore the Free Republic the Founders intended, and once at that point, to vigilantly protect our Liberty. So far, in my view, Pence doesn’t have what is needed.
I’d like to see Nunes, Sheriff Clarke, Jeffords....someone like them, run in 2024.
