I wonder what role the common cold has in keeping our immune systems functioning properly...seems like trying to stop everything that can inconvenience us may end up causing more harm...seems like our natural defenses are more adaptable than a lot of the vaccines which only seem to affect certain strains of what they are used against.

You’re absolutely right. It drains our sinuses, makes our lungs work overtime, and makes momma cook up that chicken soup. And you get a little extra rest...which may be needed in the usual cold time....winter.

An old Space 1999 episode dealt with that question. IIRC, the Alphans were more susceptible to infections, etc because they lived in a sterile environment which had weakened their immune system.
