I’m Jewish. But I agree that a core principle of Christianity is that only Christian believers can be saved. Thus, Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
So I don’t quarrel with Jeffress’ belief or his statement. It is logical, within his belief system. Similarly, I don’t object to evangelical Christians trying to convert me and other non-Christians. They do so out of a desire, in their belief, to see us saved.
But I do question the wisdom of choosing someone who believes Jews are condemned to hell to offer a prayer at the opening of the US embassy in the Jewish state.
Best reply so far. Thanks. He Jeffries represents the core of Israel’s politcal support in the US which is conservative evangelical christians. The very ones who believe unconverted Jews are going to hell (but that is true of all unconverted people) are Israel’s most vociferous supporters. The paradox is almost unexplainable except to conservative, reformed, or Orthodox Jews.
On the surface of it, I don’t like that either. I would like to see the full set of comment prior to and after than selected statement though.
I’m not against the Jewish people or the State of Israel.
