Cynthia Nixon ignites outrage for saying marijuana could be ‘form of reparations’

Cynthia Nixon took heat Monday from black leaders over her comments that creating a legalized pot industry in New York could serve as a form of reparations in black communities.

Nixon on Saturday told Forbes magazine "now that cannabis is exploding as an industry, we have to make sure that those communities that have been harmed and devastated by marijuana arrests get the first shot at this industry."

"We (must) prioritize them in terms of licenses. It's a form of reparations."

The comments came under fire from some community leaders.

Actually Treaty Tribes have their so-called monopoly enshrined in the Constitution which grants them Rights, but mere privileges for every one else regardless of race, religion place of origin - so sayeth SCOTUS.

That is also why the Treaty Tribes have a monopoly on selling fireworks available no where else, tax-free tobacco, special hunting rights, Endangered Species Act waivers, and pay no federal income tax - among many other Rights granted only to them.

We had major drug problems back then, aspirins went up to 59 cents a bottle.

That was a real rip-off too!

Those damn reactionary right wingers just don't care about the black minority.

Free dope to blacks would make it so much easier to keep them happy and content on the plantations.

The pot laws in CA and MA both fast-track licensing for those “adversely impacted by the War On Drugs”.

So if your pot shop will hire greater than 50% of people with past pot convictions (preferably with jail time), and are in an “area significantly impacted by the WoD”, are a minority, you get sent to the head of the line for expedient, lenient processing of your application.

So the concept of “reparations” is in the legal pot structure even if it does not call out any particular minority.

You'll never get there with half measures, Cynthia.

Throw in free Cheetos, purple drank and fried chicken, then we got something.

Yeah obviously it’s never going to happen but I’d trade in all affirmative action for an amendment to the Constitution saying that only descendents of American slaves can grow, make and sell marijuana products.

From MA:

“The first round of licenses will also be open to applicants in a special social justice category.

Those applicants should meet six different criteria to prove they’ve been disproportionately affected by marijuana prohibition, such as with a marijuana-related arrest, or by living in an area where those arrests happen more often.

“A lot of these urban areas where people were adversely impacted by prohibition because of the disproportionate number of arrests for people of color compared with people who are Caucasian,” said Jim Borghesani, of Regulate Mass.”

only descendants of American slaves

Would that include white slaves as well (otherwise and euphemistically known as indentured servants)?

Unclear: “obviously it’s never going to happen”. What is ‘it’?

57 years there Gunny. I put NYS in my rear view as soon as it was logistically possible.

I breathe free air now in South Carolina.

Good Luck

The 1981 Movie, Escape from NY City, becomes more probable each day when more is revealed about its scummy leaders!

This short utube gives a little insight to that movie.

Are we sure she wasn’t one of the #METOO! slap toys, of a certain former AG there?

“The following guidance is provided to assist applicants seeking to be licensed as a Marijuana Establishment under 935 CMR 500.000, which establishes the regulatory requirements for adult use marijuana in the Commonwealth. This guidance is not legal advice. If you have questions regarding the legal requirements for licensure in the Commonwealth, you are encouraged to consult an attorney.
Areas of Disproportionate Impact You can use this guidance to determine if an address is within an “area of disproportionate impact” as defined by the Commission to determine eligibility for economic empowerment priority status and the social equity program. Communities with a population of more than 100,000 people (Boston, Lowell, Springfield, and Worcester) will be subdivided by census tract numbers according to US Census unemployment data.”

Full circle.

Your great-granddaddy grew cotton, so that qualifies you to grow weed?

Yeah, that'll work.

What Cynthia doesn’t realize is that once marijuana is legal in all 50 states, a bag of weed will cost about what a pack of cigarettes does... around 5-7 dollars for the cheap stuff.

Hoodrats won’t be able to make a living from it....but big Tobacco might just become big marijuana...lol
