At least 17 people have died in an area of northwestern Democratic Republic of Congo where health officials have now confirmed an outbreak of Ebola, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

It is the ninth time Ebola has been recorded in the central African nation, whose eastern Ebola river gave the deadly virus its name when it was discovered there in the 1970s, and comes less than a year after its last outbreak which killed eight people.

Send Obama personally to prove there’s nothing to fear.
He did say it wasn’t something to be afraid of, that’s why he brought it here.
He should have lead by example back then.
He should be an example now....if he was a man of his word and believed what he said.

Here we go. This should be good for another $50-$100 billion dollars, unless Trump can see through it.

Africa runs like a Jessie Jackson/Al Sharpton operation.

Mean old Americans just don’t send enough foreign aid.

Still sounds safer than living in Chicongo.

The left says,"Refugees welcome!"

I see no difference between Ebola and Obama.

He did say it wasn’t something to be afraid of, that’s why he brought it here.

A couple of years ago, during the period when Ebola was getting worldwide coverage,we went to Kenya and upon arrival at the airport we were asked by a government official if we had recently traveled to certain countries and we also had our temperatures taken by what I assume was a nurse.

I arrived in Sierra Leone during the Ebola epidemic and my son and I went through all of that, with proofs that we did not fly from any of the other infected countries. I have been here nearly three years and can specifically point to multiple reasons why they keep catching Ebola and a host of other diseases.

“I have been here nearly three years and can specifically point to multiple reasons why”

Please do. You have exceptional insight into this that could benefit the community. You never know who might find out from this, and do something that makes a difference.

As we continue to see here, there are primarily two points of culture or environment which hamper there ability to correct these problems.

The first is the “not my fault” issue. No matter the situation, problem or solution, the first hurdle is they will claim that the “problem” is not their fault so somebody else needs to clean it up. From the Muslim factions “Inshallah” to the reflexive denial from the others, this excuse covers all shortcomings.

The second is the “not my problem”. I have seen people walk out of their compound, with trash, dump the trash into the deep gutters, and then complain about the filthiness of the streets. because it isn’t their problem once it is in the street, it is the governments. And if international donors would give just a little bit more money, then the problem would go away.

That is why hand washing never catches hold. Catching a disease is because God wills it, so it is not their fault. And if someone else catches the disease it is not their problem, the government or international community should do something about it. Washing their own hands is a waste of time and of money to buy the soap.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Didn’t we just have an Ebola outbreak? On Ovomit’s watch? Who are these people kidding? They think we’re going to bring them here for a cure?

(I know: A fool can ask more questions than a wise man can answer...)
