There are lava tubes on our property, said Dale Miller, 58, a Leilani Estates resident, referring to the natural tunnels underground that drain lava during an eruption. The whole thing is Swiss cheese.
It felt like there was something under the house like a big snake was moving under the house, said Lee Begaye, 61, Millers partner and housemate.
Lee added this was the first time in eight years of living by the volcano that theyd had to evacuate.

The USGS reports there have been 1,153 recorded earthquakes in Hawaii recently. With the eruption ongoing, many more likely to come.

Kilauea is unlike a lot of volcanoes because its a shield volcanomeaning it has long, sloping sidesand because its huge, The scale of it is hard to comprehend until youre on the volcano and you realize you can drive 20 miles and still be on the volcano.

"Are they still rocking and rolling in Hawaii?" Yes, indeed! Looks like over a hundred quakes since the 6.9. On a quick scan, I saw a 5.3, a 4.7 & a 4.6 -- with many dozens 3.0 or less...
Whole lotta shakin' goin' on!

I’m very worried about the increase of Earthquakes with this eruption as I think ocean water may be interacting deep underground with the volcanism. Is a Krakatoa style explosion possible? The large tremblors could be underground steam explosions!

On the MAJO (Japan) seismograph, I saw a
~mag 6 at 6:24 with an ~6 minute P-S time, so I looked for something with an origin time of around
6:20. Nothing near Hawaii at that time -- so I used MDJ & BJT to triangulate.
Yep, there was a 6.1 at 6:19 in the Philippines...

I sure hope those folks weren’t expecting that corrugated iron to slow the lava down...

"Is a Krakatoa style explosion possible? The large tremblors could be underground steam explosions!" I doubt it. Lots of solid rock down there. The only place the lava approaches the surface of the crust is on the upper slopes of the volcano.

And Kilauea is a shield volcano, so it’s an oozer not a Plinian-style blower of chunks. Something to do with the gas content of the magma, I think. Though the lava hunter in the link above said this eruption cycle seems to be different, smells way stinkier, more metallic, and seems to have more pressure behind it.
