Reeling from a year of public relations disasters, United Airlines has named former White House press secretary Josh Earnest as its new spokesman.
Earnest, who served for eight years under President Barack Obama, the last three as press secretary, will handle communications for United, which stumbled in its messaging in response to situations including a passenger-dragging incident and a series of mishaps involving pets, damaging the Chicago-based airlines reputation.
United Airlines is an iconic, global brand with a long history but it's United's bright future that makes me enthusiastic about joining the team, Earnest said Thursday in a news release.
Most recently a political analyst for NBC News and cable channel MSNBC, Earnest advanced from deputy press secretary to top spokesman for the Obama administration in 2014.

Fly the friendly lies.
When you think United can’t get any worse.....idiot CEO and now this clown.
An excellent reason to not fly United.
Reason #83: If I can’t drive there, it’s not worth the trip.
People still fly United?
“The only airline workers more pro-Union militant than United (based in San Francisco)”
Sorry, but United is based in Chicago. They do have a major maintenance facility at SFO (my son worked there as an engineer for about 3 months before deciding it was a hopeless place, then quit). The IAM workers there were all POS! When they had a “grievance.” they dropped tools on the shop floor all day until management capitulated to whatever pissant demand they had.
“People still fly United?”
Yeah, they do it in the lavatory!
Fitting. A company of thieves hire another thief.
Josh Earnest has rat teeth...
United should have been out of business long ago:
With a strong presence on the West Coast, United benefited from the dot-com boom which boosted traffic (especially premium traffic) to the San Francisco hub. This increase was only temporary and when the bubble finally burst, United was in a worse position than before because it had failed to keep costs under control, possibly due to giving its pilots pay raises of up to 28% in the summer of 2000. ...the company lost $2.14 billion in 2001 on revenues of $16.14 billion. In the same year United applied for a $1.5 billion loan guarantee....
Unable to secure additional capital, UAL Corporation filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2002. The ESOP was terminated, although by then its shares had become virtually worthless.
“United Airlines names former Obama press secretary Josh Earnest as spokesman”
excellent choice! given the way United treats their customers they definitely need such an accomplished liar as their spokesman ...
Forget United...obviously , a loser airline.
Joe Lockhart, another WH Press Secretary went to the NFL - made it two years. We’ll see how long Josh lasts ....

That seals it. I’m finally going to ditch the United card. I’ve had it for a good 20 years now.
Why do big corporations always make stupid decisions trying to turn themselves around after mismanaging themselves into trouble ... doubling down on stupid just gets you more stupid.
