Film Academy Expels Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski From Membership

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has voted to expel actor Bill Cosby and director Roman Polanksi from its membership ranks. The move comes a week after Cosby was convicted of three counts of aggravated indecent assault brought against him by Andrea Constand, and after disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was first expelled from the organization last year.

Polanski has been on the lam for 40 years, ever since fleeing the country while awaiting sentencing for statutory rape in 1978.

The decision to remove Cosby and Polanski from the membership was made Tuesday, May 1 at a scheduled board meeting.

The full AMPAS statement:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors met on Tuesday night (May 1) and has voted to expel actor Bill Cosby and director Roman Polanski from its membership in accordance with the organization’s Standards of Conduct. The Board continues to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity.

Didn’t they just honor Polanski at the Awards a few years ago?

What specifically changed regarding Polanski since then?

Roman Polanski drugged and raped a child... he normally receivea standing ovations from Hollywood ‘elites’ at gatherings of the creepy ones.

Who knows... maybe the world is changing.

Will the Pulitzer board condemn Walter Duranty next?

He won an Oscar in 2003 and received a standing ovation from many in the audience including Meryl Streep. The only think that has changed is this new Times Up/Me Too movement.

“How many years did it take them to Decide to expel Roman?”

It was probably more like minutes after they realised they’d be called racist if they didn’t nail a white guy also.

Makes me puke. Look how quick they are on lies like the “Duke Lacrosse” case, involving mere “white boys” with no political power. And yet when real rapists (appear to appear) in their own ranks - Charlie Rose now with 27 accusers - decades pass...

“Polanski drugged and raped a 13 year old girl in 1977 and then ran off to Europe to avoid prison in the US.

Then BAM! Just like that, only 41 years later, he gets tossed out of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

These people are not to be trifled with!”

It’s just like being on death row here in a California Prison. Death row here is a waiting room for nature to take it’s course with octogenarian criminals.

“It’s about time with Roman Polanski.”

Absolutely. I think hell just froze over.

And, Meryl Streep still disgusts me.

“It just goes to show that they did not want to eject Polanski but felt they had to do it in order to avoid being charged with hypocrisy when they ejected Cosby” not hypocrisy but racism.

Yep, it could hardly be more obvious. Can't only be picking on the black guy, oh, no.

Glad you brought that up, because even though both Cosby and Polanski have in common that they’re sick pervs, Cosby made some of the worst films of the last 40 + years and Polanski some of the most memorable.

These 'Academies' are harboring perverts. LOL

Inder Verma has resigned as the editor-in-chief of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. This is a big deal in academic circles
