Department Of Defense Training Exercise Terrifies Unprepared Totowa, N.J. Residents

“First it was explosions and then the chopper was so low that our house was vibrating,” resident Larry Pizzichetta added.

Most of the residents on the block came running outside in panic. John Emmolo said his daughter called 9-1-1 to find out what was happening, but got a short answer.

“They said, ‘Well, you have to talk to state police about it,'” Emmolo said.

Eventually, they learned members of the U.S. Armed Forces were training in secret for three nights. So CBS2 went to both local and state police to find out why the residents weren’t informed.

Neighbors said they should have been informed, and next time they are hoping they get a head’s up before they have to look up.

Both local and state police wouldn’t go on camera, and CBS2 is still waiting for a call back from the Department of Defense.

It was all preceded by reports of a strange meteorite landing in Grover’s Mill, New Jersey. [/jk]

This is exactly the type of behavior the military is concerned about. The residents heard a low flying aircraft so they ran out side to see what was happening. They called 9-1-1 to find out and were told to call someone else and clear the lines for emergencies. Training in secret, with explosions and aircraft in the area at low altitudes? C’mon.....

They reacted just like the sheep they are. Instead of taking any type of defensive posture and waiting for a safer time to find out what it was, they acted just like free run turkeys and ran themselves right into a problem.

Appears to me the government should have done this a long time ago and then pointed out their mistakes. But as long as the sheep sit around and expect Uncle sugar to protect them without inconveniencing them, they are in line for the slaughter. Stupid.

Its NJ...probably training for little “mini WACO” events to get guns out the hands of the remaining Republicans and moderates.

Was someone dropping turkey's from the chopper?

Clan Lurker Protocol for this type of thing is to arm up, have “Go Bags” in reach, lock doors and windows, and shelter in place until we gather sufficient intel to plan the next move.

He can now laugh and even brag about what happened, but in the heat of the moment he said his entire block was petrified.

Petrified. Petrified?

If I was him I wouldn't be bragging about anything. For God's sake, that helicopter was at least 1,500 feet off the ground and probably even higher. have these people never seen military hardware before?

One of my best childhood memories is having had the privilege of watching Navy, Marine, Air Force and even Army aircraft in the skies over my neighborhood. It was exciting, not scary. My favorites from early childhood were the F-4s, A4s, F-111s, A6s and the Sea Knight and Sea King helicopters. Later came the F-14s (my all time favorite), F-18s, and the Air Force F-15s and F-16s. Air Force planes were not as numerous over my neighborhood as the others because Langley AFB was on the other side of Hampton Roads from where I lived.

Well, armies train in environments where they expect to fight in the future.

I guess they are training for one second after or CW2.

How does one make an explosion secret?

“Because it was secret, you moron.”

Then they won’t mind if civilians respond appropriately to what would appear to be a foreign invasion.

Sister in law had a house in flight path of Oceania, VA. Beach. After Gulf war I, the sky was chock full of aircraft coming in from the carriers. Sat by the pool and enjoyed the show. What a rush!

“Then they won’t mind if civilians respond appropriately to what would appear to be a foreign invasion.”

In certain parts of the country that would probably happen. Notice they only do these in east coast deep blue enclaves where the population is largely disarmed and thoroughly cowed.

Try this stunt in rural Alabama and the people would react very differently I suspect.

Virginia Beach is where I grew up. When I was a kid Oceana Naval Air Base was in the boonies.

You can keep it a secret right up to the time of the explosion.

;-)

I'm with you. There is a military aircraft flyway just a mile east of my house in the Cascade Mountains western foothills, in Oregon. Helicopters are frequently seen at fairly low altitude flying between training areas or airshows. Last year we saw a C-130 tanker refueling a squadron of choppers at night as they passed our house.

F-15s have been seen at 5000 feet, at most. I've always assumed they are flying between the Oregon ANG base in Portland and the F-15 training base near Klamath Falls.
