The Liverpool hospital, where the toddler's life support was turned off on Monday, said: "All of us feel deeply for Alfie, Kate, Tom and his whole family"

Alder Hey Hospital has expressed its "heartfelt sympathy" to Alfie Evans's devastated parents after the toddler died in the early hours of today.

The Liverpool-based hospital, where little Alfie's life support was turned off on Monday night, posted a statement on its website this morning.

It said: "We wish to express our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Alfie's family at this extremely distressing time. All of us feel deeply for Alfie, Kate, Tom and his whole family and our thoughts are with them.

"This has been a devastating journey for them and we would ask that their privacy and the privacy of staff at Alder Hey is respected."

The 23-month-old, who was being treated at Alder Hey, died at 2.30am, five days after his life support was withdrawn.

Alfie's mum Kate James posted this heartbreaking message on Facebook today

In an emotional post on Facebook, his dad Tom Evans and mum Kate James announced: "Our baby boy grew his wings tonight at 2:30 am. We are heart broken. Thankyou everyone for all your support."

In a separate post, Tom, 21, wrote: "My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings at 02:30... absolutely heartbroken. I LOVE YOU MY GUY."

The couple, both from Liverpool, had fought to take Alfie to a foreign hospital for treatment, but lost a final court appeal on Wednesday.

Doctors had removed the little boy's life support on Monday following a High Court judge's ruling, however he continued to live.

The toddler left medics "gobsmacked" by breathing for himself, according to his dad, who said he was "comfortable" off the ventilator.

"Our staff have received in person, via phone calls, email, and through social media channels a barrage of highly abusive and threatening language and behaviour that has shocked us all.

When a person or entity has engaged in sickening actions which shock and disgust millions of people, having to endure a few "shocking" words and gestures is a small price to pay, in my opinion.

After all, everyone knows the old adage "actions speak louder than words".

These police would not dare go into London’s Muslim no- go zones.
But the proudly block the baby killing hospital.

I DO hope that the hospital has heard from outraged people around the world. They have earned it.

This should never happen again, and it is up to the British people to solve. They can choose to let their families live under a system of healthcare rationing, death panels, etc. - or they can step up and do something about it.

This is beyond a medical board stating their belief that no further care should be given. This is a medical board that refused (under criminal penalty) to allow the family to seek options elsewhere at their own expense! And what possibly could be the reason for that?? Embarrassed bureaucrats? Acknowledging the reality that the almighty NHS is capable of being imperfect? Or that the NHS simply doesn’t want to just come out and say it - their mission is rationing service at level that keeps the program financially viable - it is not about healthcare. And it is certainly not about allowing parents to seek options outside of the system.

Its time for the Queen to apologize for the country. Victoria would have done it.

They might as well had some nazis standing in front of the so-called hospital of death.

Which of course may be why the hospital were so determined to ‘off’ him now.

“Kinda like a murderer showing up at the victim’s funeral to express condolences.”

Good analogy, But in a way it’s even worse than that. First they kidnapped the child, then they murdered him and then they heaped insult on the family by shedding crocodile tears.

What’s most galling is the state taking over ownership of the child. They became legal kidnappers and used all the state power to keep the parents from taking their child back and have him treated by others. Truly Orwellian.

If some entity doesn’t want to spend their money to treat someone, I can understand, but making it illegal for someone else to voluntarily spend his money for the treatment, as was the case in this instance, is unbelievably cruel and insane.

I'm thankful the Mirror (as well as the Daily Mail) were there to produce and transmit the pictures which have touched sympathetic hearts and, indeed, aroused passions around the world.

But even they do not do the necessary investigative work to a move beyond the (necessary) sympathy and passion, and ask the vital questions:

Somebody answer these questions.

What, now they’re playing the victim card? Unbelievable!

In my mind there’s no such thing as too much abuse that can be heaped on these despicable people.

Seriously?

Gah, so that's why they wanted him DEAD NOW!! That explains it! I can't even tell you what that makes me want to do, because no doubt the British Constabulary are monitoring all my media accounts.

“Hope the sue the Sh!t out of them and NHS too.”

That’s probably illegal there, too, just like claiming possession of your own child.
