Excellent
Slap down!
This is pretty much common knowledge — the modern Democrat dodge is to say that oh, the Democrats who stood for slavery and Jim Crow went to the GOP and were washed out of the Democrat party. That’s what I hear from just about every black person I’ve spoken with. Has anyone traced the details and found out whether the move was as drastic as portrayed. To me it looks simpler — that Democrats of all geography hopped onto the welfare state and then used it to capture the black vote. Jim Crow was now superfluous; the black vote was no longer trouble for Democrats.
I always ask the person who says that when was it they switched from the Republican to the Democrat party.
It was the democRATs.
That would work for oldsters, but how about the young ones who say it happened before they were born.
Of course hes correct
And not trying to destroy Dineshs thunder but the Republican Party was created in 1854. Not long before the civil war. Made up of abolitionists, anti slavery Whigs and Free Staters. Not much time for an anti slavery party to change their platform 180 degrees.
When I grew up in NW Florida there was only one party. Democrat.
Very good.
Of course, people should be prepared for one of the standard Leftist counter-arguments: somewhere along the way, the 2 parties “switched places” and the good guys became bad guys and vice versa.
But look:
Prior to 1860 — Democrats were pushing for new states to allow slavery
Democrats opposed the Civil War
After the Civil War, Republicans pushed for Reconstruction so that freed slaves could vote, own property, hold political office and get an education.
Democrats opposed Reconstruction.
Democrats started the KKK.
Democrats imposed Jim Crow so that segregation could be enforced.
Jackie Robinson was a Republican.
Martin Luther King was a Republican.
Segregationist Sheriff “Bull” O’Connor was a Democrat.
Strom Thurmond was a segregationist — when he was a Democrat.
Strom Thurmond opposed segregation — when he was a Republican.
The Democrat’s opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Republicans passed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
And just this week — Kanye West supports President Trump and the Democrats want that boy to get back on the plantation.
I’m really not sure when the magical “switching places” took place, because it looks to me like Democrats have always been the racists.
What is sad to me is the success of the FDR crowd in getting the pious Christian set to confuse the welfare state with the charity urged to Christians in specific.
Without the Christian context, people would have been saying Hey! This is another flavor of communism! But somehow the “Christian” patina erased criticism. It is a God-gagger.
The only answer I can see will entail evangelists rising up and succeeding in gaining an audience that doesn’t make that mistake.
What I heard about it made it sound like a rather minor historical event. It was an eddy in a veritable voluminous tide heading the other way. The switchers didn’t get a lot of friends in the GOP, and politically perished.
Do you know more in specific on this matter... it sounds like more of an idee fixe than the brunt of history. If anything, most Republicans have bowed a little to the Democrat welfare state, trying to make it cleaner.
At what time did the Republicans and Democrats form the unity party to enslave us all?
The Evil Myth that the parties swapped sides was started by Democrats trying to cover up their racist history. Of the 20 Southern Democrats that voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and The Voting Rights Act of 1965, only one switched parties, Sen. Strom Thurmond.
Sen. Strom Thurmond did move to the Republican Party in 1964 but that was because he was angry at the Democrat leadership for not supporting his apartheid views. Not because the Republican Party suddenly embraced his racism. All of the other Democrats stayed in the House or Senate until they retired or were defeated by other Democrats in elections.
Look it up for yourself. That is what I did. I looked at the Congressional record of all of the racist Democrats and found that they all had a long record within their Vile Democrat Party and never did anything but attempt to hide their racist leopard spots behind lies. That is why my first vote in 1972 was Republican.
In every vote in both legislative chambers, a larger percentage of Republicans voted YEA, than Democrats.
Democrats lie and say the Parties switched with the so called "Southern Strategy." Lets remember the late Robert C. Byrd was a lifelong Democrat, who was a recruiter for the Klan while in his 20s and 30s, he rose to the title of Kleagle and Exalted Cyclops of his local chapter before becoming their partys leader in the Senate. Senator Byrd used the "N" word in a TV interview in 2001 at the same time he said that Racial problems were behind us and the problem was that we keep talking about it too much.
"And as I reflect on the full sweep of his 92 years, it seems to me that his life bent towards justice,Like the Constitution he tucked in his pocket, like our nation itself, Robert Byrd possessed that quintessential American quality, and that is a capacity to change, a capacity to learn, a capacity to listen, a capacity to be made more perfect.
-Barack Obama Eulogizing KKK leader Robert Byrd
Bill Clinton's mentor was the heinously racist Sen. William Fulbright President Bill Clinton eulogizing his former mentor and friend, called the late Arkansan a lifelong student and teacher and credited him with making the world a better place. Fulbright was a Democrat congressman, a senator, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and had the distinction along with the majority of his democrat colleagues in the Senate for filibustering against the landmark Civil Right Act of 1964 and voted against it. He opposed the 1965 Voting Rights Act and in 1968 he voted against the Fair Housing Act. and you may be a gullible useful idiot for not knowing this already. Bill Clinton was an intern and then a clerk in the office of Senator Fulbright from 1964 to 1967 while Fulbright was voting against Black Freedom.
And Al Gore's father, Sen. Al Gore Sr. was the same sort of ugly racist that was against segregation, filibustered and voted against The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and The Voting Rights Act of 1965.
So much for your ideology shift between parties! It never happened. Democrat apologists and revisionists lie!
You have to ask yourself why isnt the Democratic Party not labeled as a hate group? Democrats were the slaveholders before the Civil War; they founded the KKK during Reconstruction to retain their power and they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests to prevent blacks from voting. But havent the Democrats changed their ways?
To this day Democrats continue to oppose school choice vouchers that would allow minority children to escape the failing public schools. The first thing the Obama administration did when taking office was to repeal the vouchers for Washington, DC poor and minority school children, which had been using public money for families to pay for private school tuition. To me, this is the very essence of a hate group.

Here is another article from the National Review by Mona Charen. The political parties never "switched", that's a lie

it is a mendacious myth that the parties switched

A black lady professor does a piece on this at PragerU.
Well worth anybody’s 5 minutes
The Democrats that switched to Republican did so in the mid-nineteen-seventies and eighties, One Hundred Years after the Democrats owned slaves. For Democrats to use the argument that the Democrats that owned slaves were really Republicans is idiotic in the extreme.
Yes, and it’s MUCH better for black racists to get the bad news from another black. Just see the melt down against Kanye West, for defending the woman who started this fledgling movement.
Candace Owen is the brains and voice. Kanye tried to defend her and by no fault of his own, his fame overshadows her message. He is taking the fire in her place, however.
Go Candace!!
Go Kanye!!
