Court upholds Texas' law in another big voter ID ruling

Texas' voter ID law that was twice blocked over findings of discrimination can stay in effect for the 2018 elections, a U.S. appeals court ruled Friday.

It was the second major ruling over voting rights in the U.S. this week after an Arkansas judge on Thursday blocked that state's voter ID measure as unconstitutional.

But in a 2-1 decision by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, the Texas law that critics have slammed as one of the toughest voter ID measures in the nation was seen as a suitable replacement for the original 2011 law that a federal judge had likened to a "poll tax" on minority voters.

>>Opponents and a federal judge in Texas balked at the revisions, saying criminal penalties tied to lying on the affidavit could have a chilling effect on voters.

How chilling? If you lie you are GUILTY.

I want the death penalty for ballot stuffing. If you try to steal an election with multiple votes, you are guilty of seditious ‘overthrow’ of the leadership of this country (at all levels).

>> She also disapproved of the modified version, which makes knowingly lying on the affidavit to vote a misdemeanor. Democrats said that provision could keep people home on Election Day over fears of incorrectly filling out a form.

Knowing lying is NOT “accidentally” filling it out incorrectly.

QUIT LYING AND STEALING VOTES

CommieCrats were counting on this law being unenforceable to push Texas Senate candidate Beto O’Rourk over the finishing line in November through highly-crafted fraud. Looks like their tenuous hopes have been dashed.

I hope a good many of them crash and burn, literally.

Proves that this “judge’ is just a political hack. Who else uses such obviously shoddy excuses?

I can think of no defense for denying a state to have stringent voter ID.

Denying ID is promoting (Democrat) voter fraud.

Everyone (everyone) knows this.

To say otherwise is to lie, and it's the kind of lie that nobody (including the tellers of the lie) believe, even a smidgen.

Yep. You are absolutely correct.

Dems must have classes to teach how to openly lie and keep a relatively straight face while doing it.

Lying is acceptable for some segments of the country.

As long as one identifies as a Democrat, lying isn't just acceptable, it's expected.

Not just Stalinists.

Progressivism is based on deception. Progressivism takes as its basic assumption that common people do not know what is good for them, and must be manipulated (lied to) for their own good.

Why do you think “You can not handle the truth” has been pushed so hard for 50 years?

Isn’t there an easier way to force the issue on demanding ID and Citizenship proof to vote?

What if we just passed a LAW that said something like:

No US Citizen or Legal resident shall be required to provide or produce any greater means of Identification to ANY Government Official, Agent or Employee than what is necessary to Vote in a Public Election.

What would they do??

Only in the world of Libtard LaLa Land is it fair to ask for a photo ID to buy a pack of smokes or a half liter of hooch but not to vote.

I like how you think. It would be fun to pull out a utility bill the next time a cop pulls you over and asks for identification.

Arkansas judges rules against voter Id Appealing

Arkansas is in the 8th Circuit. If the appeal ruling conflicts with the 5th Circuit, then it goes to the Supreme Court.

I’ve confirmed from several of my healthcare providers that if I didn’t have an official ID when I checked in, I would NOT receive health care service. And I thought “health care is a Constitutional right” to the left?

How is this any different?
