PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull says US President Donald Trump absolutely deserves credit for bringing about historic talks between the leaders of North and South Korea.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have engaged in a historic meeting in the demilitarised zone separating the two Koreas, seeking an agreement to establish peace on the peninsula.
Ive given him that credit because Donald Trump has taken a very, very strong, hard line on the denuclearisation issue and he has been able to bring in the support of the global community and, in particular, China, Mr Turnbull told reporters in Sydney on Saturday.
You have to give great credit to President Xi (Jinping) and China for enforcing these sanctions.
North Koreas economic ties are overwhelmingly with Beijing. Chinas preparedness to impose those sanctions has been the critical change that had put the economic pressure on North Korea, Mr Turnbull said.
That coupled with the strong stand that President Trump has taken and other nations (including) Japan and Australia but overwhelmingly the pressure has come from China and the United States.
.....
Mr Turnbull also confirmed an Australian military plane was being sent to Japan to help monitor North Korean ships.
The surveillance aircraft is bound for a US facility in Japan alongside Canadian military planes to monitor Pyonyangs vessels on the high seas.
We do have a P-8A surveillance aircraft that is going to be working in the region to monitor compliance with sanctions, Mr Turnbull said.

Nobody, I mean nobody, pulls the wool over the eyes of a Gambini, or Donald Trump.

Wonder what people like George Will and Bill Kristol have to say about today’s developments?
Even Lindsey Graham admits if the Korea plan seems to be working, Trump will deserve the Nobel Peace Prize!
Thanks to the Prime Minister for the good and generous praise. President Trump hasn’t received much of that from a couple of European national leaders who have slightly less brain weight. ;-)
I wish he would be offered the prize. Then, at the award ceremony, he could make a few polite remarks, mention some of the nothings - like Al Gore and the Kenyan - who have previously received it, and then question the value of such an award given to such people. After a second or so of reflection, he could toss the award over his shoulder and walk off stage.
I read that DJT was recently asked by a reporter what it might be like to negotiate with a "madman".It was said that DJT gave a sly grin and responded something like "well, that's *his* problem, not mine".
It seems possible that Kim Jong Psychopath's advisers and/or his masters in Beijing have told him "you've gotta watch out for this guy,he's crazy".
The advanced industrialized nations should offer him a full pardon for past crimes, offer him billions, offer his *pals* billions...for complete,unfettered,24/7/366 access by US inspectors to every square foot of the "DPRK".
Of course he'd certainly deserve it but he'll never get it.The President of the ROK would very probably get one (probably with good reason) as would Kim Jong Psychopath.IOW,we'd see another Rabin/Arafat arrangement.
Still waiting for some Left-wing idiot like Bill Kristol say that this is the result of Obama’s policies towards N Korea.
If Trump did that (publicly reject the medal) it would ‘break the internet’ at least in Europe.
