The sister of accused East Area Rapist Joseph DeAngelo told The Sacramento Bee on Thursday that her brother never displayed "any kind of madness" as a young man or adult and that her family is haunted by the thoughts of her brother's alleged victims.
Rebecca Thompson, DeAngelo's older sister, said in a phone interview that she was "pretty much in shock."
"As stunned as I am - because I've never seen him display any kind of madness or anything like that - I just can't believe it," Thompson said. "I've never seen anything to allow myself to think he could do such things."

That said, one wonders if Ms. Thompson might be willing to have a brief and voluntary conversation with Mister Lie Detector, just to make certain.
A clever sociopath, with a successful outlet for his or her madness, would probably seem pretty normal to outsiders.

Ted Bundy fooled many that he was a bright young man.
Sociapths rarely cause pause in those around them. Ted Bundy, J Wayne Gacy and others cruised under the public awareness. Gacy was a clown for kids birthday Parties. Ted Bundy attracted girls in flocks. Charles Manson ran a commune. Until they are caught and placed in direct scrutiny, no one notices. Fairly sobering and worrisome. There are many out there and no one knows how to predict which ones will act out their fantasy’s.

Are you expecting some police statement that concludes: “Well, after 30 hours of waterboarding she did admit that he acted strange at Thanksgiving dinner in 1982...”?
He was a bright young man, by most accounts. Have you heard about how he met Ann Rule?

It wouldn’t be the first time that a sociopath was able to fool just about everyone.

If the jury is right, look at Bill Cosby. Anybody want to say that is not a sociapath. If they are right look at his career. Even a voice in kids cartoons. Under the radar? Who saw it? Amazing.

Singer Debbie Harry from The Blondies, says she is pretty sure she got picked up one night by Ted Bundy, but managed to get away. She was walking home about 2am, in New York, early 70’s. From what I’ve read maybe physcopath is the current medical class’s term of choice. It boils down to no empathy for the object chosen/ victim. If true Cosby certainly should qualify. The medical brains say there are 3 to 4 per 100 people who fit the profile. If and when they choose to give in to the urges they have is the wild card. We pass them on the street. Hopefully none of us look at one in the mirror when we wash our face. I was always intrigued by the term “monsters from the Id”. It was an old term in a sci-fi movie from my younger days. Seems appropriate in these cases some what.

Why? She isn’t suspected of anything except being his sister and being located by a reporter.
