I just heard he is an ex cop.
I’d bet that a DNA match led to the arrest. Either the perp’s DNA or the DNA of a close relative.
I believe this is the same guy that was dubbed the night stalker in So CA, he really got around.
I think they caught that guy in SoCal. I believe his name was something like Ramirez.

Watched a chilling docunentary on him just recently. Many of the rape victims said he had a small penis.

He’s not the Night Stalker. Name was Richard Ramirez. Died in prison if memory serves.
HLN put out a whole series of shows with details of the serial crimes by this perp.

Richard Ramirez was the Night Stalker. Arrested in 1984 I believe.

There was no “original night stalker,” a name someone came up with retroactively...hence “original.” The serial killer dubbed The Night Stalker was Richard Ramirez. He died in prison from lymphoma in 2013.
According to Wiki this guy had a lot of monikers:

So, why’d he quit in the 1980s? No activity since then, or did he get smarter and keep going without being detected?
