Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently told the White House he might have to leave his job if President Trump fired his deputy, Rod J. Rosenstein, who oversees the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to people familiar with the exchange.
Sessions made his position known in a phone call to White House counsel Donald McGahn last weekend, as Trumps fury at Rosenstein peaked after the deputy attorney general approved the FBIs raid April 9 on the presidents personal attorney Michael Cohen.

It’s a two-fer! MAGA! :)
Right. Many opinions about Sessions here in this thread, but itd be a shame if they were based on this complete fiction.
Fox reported that Sessions responded to this news report that it wasn’t true and that only he and the White House Lawyer were on the line, so who leaked this to the Press? Could it be that someone over at NSA listened in to the call?
Of course he does.
I'm saying that he needs a lot more than that to govern and MAGA, and that, given his ill-advised decision to stick with the GOP, if he doesn't get it through a military coup he won't get it at all.
...One person familiar with the phone call told the Post that Sessions did not intend to threaten his resignation, but simply wanted to express his concern that Rosensteins ouster would put him in a difficult position...
I didn’t say a word about what more or less Trump might need. All I said was that under the circumstances Trump needs a strong, loyal, aggressive AG.
The caveat: under the circumstances, the last thing Trump needs is pro-Hillary anti-Trumper Deep State snake, Rosenstein as the acting AG, and passive don’t-look-at-me-I’m-recused figuehead Sessions.
You can all say ‘adios’ etc, but if Sessions leaves because Rosenstein is fired (and POTUS has said he’s not intending to fire either), the Senate will NOT confirm Sessions’s replacement and we will not have an Attorney General, only an “Acting” AG. Yes, it could be said even that would be an improvement, that Sessions isn’t even acting, but the legalities would make it unworkable.
The current acting AG is pro-Hillary anti-Trumper Deep State snake, Rosenstein. Sessions is recused from everything of any importance; he’s a figurehead at best.
Look up the DOJ operations manual. The Deputy AG actually does almost all of what most people think the AG does. The DAG is always career DOJ like any Acting AG would be.
Fake news. The first article I read on this cited, “based on someone who was familiar with the call.” Not a very strong reference. Since then it has gained a life of its own.........................
I looked online for Sessions denial and couldn’t find anything. Surely there must be a link and a quote?
Here is how Trump deals with fake news.
Trump tweets April 21:
The New York Times and a third rate reporter named Maggie Habberman (sic), known as a Crooked H flunkie who I dont speak to and have nothing to do with, are going out of their way to destroy Michael Cohen and a relationship with me in the hope that he will flip.
They use non-existent sources and a drunk/drugged up loser who hates Michael, a fine person with a wonderful family. Michael is a businessman for his own account/lawyer who I have always liked & respected. Most people will flip if the Government lets them out of trouble, even if it means lying or making up stories.
Sorry, I dont see Michael doing that despite the horrible Witch Hunt and the dishonest media!
[So far no Trump tweet debunking the WaPo-Sessionsin story; not holding my breath.]
Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!
I looked online for Sessions denial and couldnt find anything. Surely there must be a link and a quote?
Since then, alumni of the Justice Department have rallied to Rosensteins defense.
Why would Trump savagely debunk the NYT-Cohen story and remain as silent as the tomb re the WaPo-Sessions story?
As of Friday afternoon, more than 800 former Justice Department employees had signed an open letter calling on Congress to swiftly and forcefully respond to protect the founding principles of our Republic and the rule of law if Trump were to fire the deputy attorney general, special counsel Robert S. Mueller III or other senior Justice Department officials. The group MoveOn.org has sought to organize nationwide protests if such an event were to occur.
And please, no 4DChess craziness. The only evidence of 4DChess where Sessions is concerned is in the overactive imaginations of Jeff’s most ardent supporters.
A person close to the White House and the Justice Department said Sessions has vacillated, I think, from being concerned about the deputy leaving or being fired and recognizing that Rosenstein has not been a friend of either him or the department.
“...shame if they were based on this complete fiction.”
Welcome to the DU. Kinda feels like it and boy do they love them some Amazon Post tall tales.
When the indictments start landing, none will admit they were fooled.
