Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Democratic challenger Beto ORourke are in a statistical dead heat, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
Cruz led ORourke, 47 percent-44 percent, which is within the margin of error, according to a survey from Quinnipiac. Its the first major public poll of the race and is likely to fuel Democratic hopes that the little-known three-term El Paso congressman is in the running to unseat Cruz.

That minute’ was 24 hours ago and there hasn’t been a state wide elected democrat since except incumbent lieutenant governor Bob Bullock in 1994. I’m not going to lose too much sleep.
And I don’t even like Ted. It’s a personality thing and not his stance on issues. Never voted for him in a primary, but I will vote for him in a general election every time.
He was and is a Never Trumper. He has not supported Trump on key issues and votes. His stunt at the convention is not forgotten. I’ve yet to hear him say he was wrong and now supports Trump.
I’m thinking some of the “new GOP” are setting these polls up so they can scream for donations ....
I call BS on the poll.
Since when has the Q poll become a “major poll”? Have they ever been near correct? They are as bogus as the WSJ/NBC polls. ....Who was polled and where? How many were Dems or Pubs?
I’m in Texas and I’ve not agreed with everything Cruz has done, but even his bad decisions are better than this Dem clown would do in the Senate.
Good point is libs will toss money his way rather than vulnerable Dem Senator in states Trump won?
Waiting for favorable polls from those red states. So many called Toss up or Lean Dem.
Those figures just show that 46% of those polled refused to say if they favored the Rep or Dem candidate.
Don’t feed the pollsters that call and lie to those who do the exit polls! ....Drives the media crazy!
Mainer, big talk from some in California.
The primaries are over. Cruz is doing a good job as a Senator. It’s long past time to move on and support him.
There is a tendency in the MSM to look for a “great liberal hope” who will come in and beat those nasty Texas conservatives. Trumpeting any poll before Labor Day is foolish. Most folks are not paying attention, and will not until summer is over.
Cruz, from what I have seen, is not taking a win for granted. If he fights like he is ten points behind, he is likely to win by ten points in the general election.
Here's a list of democrats elected to state-wide office in Texas:
You're welcome!
Big talk from someone in California. What you got that is better?
Who is Trump supporting for the Senate seat ?
I know 24 hours ago is not that long. If we lose Texas, it’s all over. You basically said the same thing.
