Quebec warned the federal government on Monday that it has reached the limit of its capacity process undocumented asylum seekers entering Canada through Quebec and will enforce that limit in its temporary shelters beginning April 24.
Quebec has 1,850 spaces in its four temporary shelters in Montreal, and 75 per cent of those spaces are already occupied. Quebec Immigration Minister David Heurtel said Monday that capacity will not be allowed to pass 85 per cent in order to maintain space and resources to accommodate those asylum seekers who used regular channels to enter the country.
The number of undocumented asylum seekers tripled last year, and the rate seems to have been accelerating since the start of 2018, with three times as many entries recorded since the start of the year than during the 2017 period.
Quebec is arguing that its housing, health and social services and educational network are already stretched to the limit, and the flow of asylum seekers will now have to be limited.
Heurtel refused to say outright if the shelters will be closed to new arrivals. But he said the province would advise the federal government when there is no longer any space available.
The minister will be in Ottawa on Wednesday to demand a federal contingency plan on the issue. Noting that Quebec was the entry point for half of all the undocumented migrants who came to Canada last year, Heurtel said he will ask Ottawa to work on a plan to redirect any overflow to centres other than Montreal.

Flying over Western Canada, the only thing I could think was: why don’t we invade, declare everything west of Manitoba to be the U.S., and we get zillions of acres to expand into.
Driving to Alaska will become a jaunt through the U.S.!
Plus we get Whistler Mountain and Banff for better skiing.
Only problems will be Vancouver and Calgary, currently flooded with immigrant aliens.
Just send them to Mexico, they’ll understand.

Too bad. The E. U. says somebody has to take them. Besides they’ll just drift south a hundred miles or so and you’ll be off the hook.
Just do what the US does - release them into the public with the promise that they will show up for their hearing in two years

Canadians should get down on their knees every night and thank GOD there is a country called the United States of America sandwiched between them and Mexico.
If just the number of Illegal Aliens who came to our country during the OBAMA Administration went to Canada, they would take that whole country over in a matter of months and everyone there would be speaking Spanish in a year.

I’m originally a Vancouver boy, by way of Sask. Vancouver rarely has illegals because the RCMP do their jobs there (unlike local cops here in the US) and they round up all the illegals where they find them.
The only “issue” is that the whites are now the minority in Vancouver. Ever wonder the joke why it was called HONGCOUVER since the 90’s? Guess why with the word “Hong”.
and another thing: Vancouver is the Berkeley of Canada. They mostly hate Americans there. Calgary is OK, it’s like Texas without the Austin in it but damn way colder.
Looks like plenty of room along the NE shore of Hudson’s Bay.
They must be horrible racists in Canada for deciding they have a limit on illiterate, marginally-skilled, immigrants who hate the culture of Canada and don’t speak the language (either of them).
