Admit it, James Comey: You’ve been lying all along (Lanny J. Davis)
The Hill ^ | 04/15/18 | Lanny J. Davis

Posted on 04/15/2018 1:09:23 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

On Saturday night, the great Wolf Blitzer interviewed one of his panelists about James Comey’s justification for violating over a half-century of Justice Department policies in Republican and Democratic administrations when he sent his October 28 letter to Congress in 2016, which cost Hillary Clinton the presidency.

Comey has repeatedly claimed that he was “obligated” to write his speculative letter because of a promise he had made to Congress to do so if “anything new” came up after his July 5, 2016, press conference announcing a new prosecutable case could be brought against Clinton.

*snip*

So admit the truth, Mr. Comey. You wrote the letter not because you had to in order to fulfill a promise to Congress but because you wanted to protect your political rear end from anti-Clinton Republican partisans. Period.

LANNY DAVIS:" So admit the truth, Comey. You wrote the letter not because you had to in order to fulfill a promise to Congress but because you wanted to protect your political rear end from anti-Clinton Republican partisans. "

Oh please, a-n-o-t-h-e-r Obama minion in ***-saving mode....AFTER THE FACT?

Sounds like the Susan Rice fiasco---emailing herself on Trump's Inauguration Day AFTER THE FACT.

AND this---AFTER THE FACT---Rosenstein writes a memo to give Mueller a more specific description of his "authority:"
R/Stein specifically states that Mueller has the authority to investigate Paul Manafort
“for any crimes arising out of payments he received from the Ukrainian govt before and during President Viktor Yanukovych's tenure.”

And that’s pretty much what Mueller indicted Manafort for.

<><> Even though Manafort's activities preceded, and had nothing whatsoever to do with, Trump's campaign.

<><> Rosenstein wrote the memo six days AFTER Mueller ordered the armed raid Manafort's house in the dead of night.

=====================================

Now we can all understand which "book" Susan Rice was referring to in her Jan 20 email to herself. Read on.

WHY SUSAN RICE WROTE AN EMAIL TO HERSELF........the extraordinary email Obama's National Security Advisor Susan Rice wrote to herself at 12:15 on January 20, 2017........within minutes of President Trump's inauguration must have been her last act, more or less, before she vacated the White House. So obviously the email was important to her. But why would it be important to send an email to herself (the only person copied was one of her aides)?

If you read the email, along with Senator Grassley’s inquiry to Rice, it is obvious that it is a CYA memo. But the question is, whose A is being C’d?

Most attention, so far, has focused on the first two paragraphs of the email, which describe a meeting that occurred around two weeks earlier. The participants included

<><>Barack Obama,

<><>Joe Biden,

<><>James Comey,

<><> Sally Yates–who turns up like a bad penny whenever skulduggery is afoot–

<><>and Rice.

IOW, the usual suspects.

Rice made sure to underscore that Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities “by the book”. Rice writes Obama stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book.

This is pure boilerplate. It represents, obviously, the company line. But Rice did not write her email to cover Barack Obama’s rear end. If she or anyone else had wanted to document the claim that Obama said to proceed “by the book,” the appropriate course would have been an official memo that copied others who were present and would have gone into the file. (My guess is that such a memo was written, but we haven’t seen it.)

In my opinion, the important part of the email is not the paragraph that purports to exonerate Obama, but the paragraphs that follow: "From a national security perspective, however, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia."

The next paragraph of the email remains classified and has been redacted. The email concludes:

The President asked Comey to inform him if anything changes in the next few weeks that should affect how we share classified information with the incoming team. Comey said he would.

CONCLUSION Why did Susan Rice send herself an email purporting to document this part of the meeting? Because she was C’ing her own A. Rice was nervous about the fact that, at the president’s direction, she had failed to “share information fully as it relates to Russia” with President Trump’s incoming national security team.

Her actions violated longstanding American tradition. Outgoing administrations have always cooperated in the transition to a new administration, whether of the same or the opposing party, especially on matters relating to national security.

Susan Rice is far from the brightest bulb on the tree, but she was well aware that by concealing facts ostensibly relating to national security from her counterpart in the new administration–General Michael Flynn–she was, at a minimum, violating longstanding civic norms.

If she actually lied to Flynn, she could have been accused of much worse. So Rice wanted to be able to retrieve her email, if she found herself in a sticky situation, and tell the world that she hid relevant facts about Russia from the new administration on Barack Obama’s orders.

What were the secrets that Obama wanted to keep from the new administration? We can easily surmise that the fact that the Steele memo was paid for by the Democratic Party; that the FBI had to some degree collaborated with Steele; that the Clinton campaign had fed some of the fake news in the dossier to Steele; and that Comey’s FBI had used Steele’s fabrications as the basis for FISA warrants to spy on the Trump campaign were among the facts that Obama and his minions didn’t want Michael Flynn and Donald Trump to know. Susan Rice, we can infer, was told to keep these secrets, and if anyone ever asked why she had failed to disclose them to Michael Flynn and others on Trump’s team, or even lied to those people, she would have the defense that President Obama ordered her to do it.

There may be more to it than this. The redacted paragraph likely contains more information about what it was that Rice wasn’t supposed to tell the Trump team. One of these days, we will learn what was blacked out.

The fact that Michael Flynn was Susan Rice’s counterpart in the incoming administration may also be significant. We know that the FBI agents who interviewed General Flynn–even Peter Strzok!–reported that they didn’t think he had lied about anything. And yet, Obama’s DOJ and Bob Mueller’s “investigation”–basically a continuation of Obama’s corrupt Department of Justice under another, less accountable name–persecuted Flynn to the point where he finally pled guilty to a single count of lying to the FBI in order, as he says, to end the madness and the financial drain.

Why were the Democrats so determined to discredit General Flynn? Perhaps because they wanted to pre-empt any outrage that may otherwise have followed on revelations that the Obama administration’s National Security Advisor hid important facts from her successor during the transition, and may have lied to him about those facts, in violation of all American tradition.

CYA memos are rarely a good idea. Most often, they reveal what the author was trying to conceal.

Definitely the case with regard to Susan Rice’s now-infamous email to herself.

Comey's become a pretty safe fall guy, and the Clintonista sharks are circling. In Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign, Allen and Parnes reported Hillary's impression: that she had the election in the bag as a result of the Trump locker-room recording, and Comey's re-opening of the investigation was such a shock to her that she turned to it as a decisive event when the election slipped from her fingers. This is probably not the case but it's a very convenient straw to grasp.

That's a very vicious, dangerous enemy to make in DC even in defeat (Vince Foster was unavailable for comment) and Comey's subsequent legal abuses in pursuit of taking Trump down aren't going to buy him forgiveness. Lanny Davis just got a couple of stabs in but he'll be far from the last. Release the hounds!

My bet is that when Comey told Congress....Hey there's more, he had all attentions AT THAT TIME to come back and say....but they were nothing.

Kinda like writing Hillary off as NOT GUILTY before interviewing her.

Kinda like....I'm going to write memos when I visit the President.....cuz some way, some how, I have to get something on him to validate the FISA scandals.

Comey is a mischievous little planner.

It took me a while to come up with how he operates but this looks like it.

So what has he planned after his book and the tour?? Maybe the Bahamas where someone on the beach will give him a wedgie.....for old times sakes.

“he sent his October 28 letter to Congress in 2016, which cost Hillary Clinton the presidency”

Comey believed the polls and thought the election was ‘safe’ for H->. They all thought she was so far ahead that Trump couldn’t touch her. Just go back and look at the smug look on her face!

The polls were wrong and her loss had nothing to do with Comey. Her voters would have voted for her no matter what Comey’s letter said.

I actually agreed with Lanny today across the board during his interview on Fox. That was a first, but he pretty much nailed it.

The real irony is that the person most to blame for this mess, HRC, is still untouched as everyone below her fights about it and her illegal conduct (as most of of us believe) or her “bad judgement” as put forth by Comey and believed by Lanny was to blame.

...and as soon as I post that, it appears that longtime Clintonista Paul Begala has chimed in:

For some on the Left, like Democratic strategist Paul Begala, he doesn’t know if Comey is a liar, but he admitted that he sides with the RNC, who created a Lyin’ Comey site, in that the former FBI director was very selective with the truth...

So Stephanopolous, Begala, and Davis in a single day. I...I sense a pattern here...

Comey’s behavior was confusing since he had been in the tank for Hillary for years. Once she was president, all the horrible bias he displayed in her favor on the email catastrophe would have been washed away. Just like it was when he exonerated the Clintons on Marc Rich, New Square, Whitewater and others, hell, as general counsel of Lockheed he had that company contribute 6 million to the Clinton Fund. There would have been some resistance but the DNC Media would have crushed it. I could only surmise that he believed her to be guilty of these crimes and the tiny candle that Comey had as a conscience demanded that he do something. I say to Lanny Davis, what could have Republican rancor have ever done to Comey? Not a damn thing. He would have protected the Clintons, like he always did, and still be head of the FBI.

Poor Comey. He's been covering Hillary's slithery hide ever since Whitewater, and he's nefariously made millions for his many efforts.

He danced a flashy spider jig when it was evident to all of them that the Hillster needed help if she was gonna win - only to be blamed for her loss anyways.

Poor Comey.

Comey laid out all hillary had done (up to a point) and her side of the table did not know her... would not have believed it... but he pretty much did her in, and then pardoned her (so to speak). He might have changed enough minds... however, CA and NY are her like... and they would have voted for a rock before Trump.

It’s a good think FB did not kick me out before the election... I was on there telling the youngun’s who she is.. they don’t know how dumb they are when they sang her praises. I’m OUT of FB... it’s not a fit place to rest.
