So after Trump has someone fire Rosenstein, who does he appoint in his place? Does the Deputy AG spot remain vacant until a replacement is appointed or does someone move up and become acting Deputy AG?
“Does the Deputy AG spot remain vacant until a replacement is appointed or does someone move up and become acting Deputy AG?”
I’m sure the DOJ has a conga line of worthless a$$holes ready to “move on up.”
I just read elsewhere that they guy immediately behind Rosenschmeckel is another anti-Trumper who is in the bag for Mueller. I think he’s the Solicitor General or some such title. The rot in our government agencies is a mile deep. my guess is that Trump will have to find replacements from outside. What I don’t know is is the appointment of a Deputy AG subject to Senate confirmation.
Interestingly, the Associate AG (Rachel Brand) resigned in February -- so her replacement is only an interim appointee.

Appoint Michael Cohen.
I read that the President can appoint whomever he wants if they have already been confirmed by the Senate, for anything.
There is always an ‘Acting’ official, whatever the title. Next guy moves up. Note that ‘Acting’ is not the same as ‘Interim’. ‘Acting’ is an automatic step up while ‘Interim’ must be specifically named. Some of these deputy-type jobs are reserved for career people from within the departments. Not sure about the Deputy AG, but I think it is is a ‘reserved for those within’ job.
