Marcela Rivera told Eyewitness News she lives in constant fear.
She's an undocumented mother of five American children whose husband, Carlos Gudiel, was just deported back to Guatemala on Wednesday.
Eyewitness News obtained video of him in his home country as he was tearfully reunited with his mother.
"My husband is not a criminal," Rivera said, in Spanish.
Rivera said her husband did cross the border illegally twice but he doesn't have a criminal background. It may be hard for people to understand her situation, she said, but all they ever wanted was a better life.
The Harris County GOP chair said the immigration system needs to be fixed regardless.
"We need to enforce the law," GOP chairman Paul Simpson said. "He's a grown man who made this decision after he'd been deported once before to violate the law again and then father five children, so I hope his family does get reunited with his family back in his home country."

She is UNDOCUMENTED-—why is she allowed to stay here???
Send her & the kids out along with him.
Exactly. Anchor babies are no reason to stay in the US. Strip the kids of citizenship, send them all packing.
“My husband is not a criminal,” Rivera said, in Spanish.
I’ve got news for you Ms. Rivers. Not only is your husband a criminal, but you are too. Breaking into this country is a crime. Game, set, match.
The 14th Amendment was NEVER meant for illegals to enter this country & have their spawn receive citizenship.
NEVER
Time to leave.
Your question was "Why did she abandon her husband? Wouldnt it be better to move her children where they can be close to their father?"
I answered your question. Don't get so emotionally wrapped up in an issue that you can't see an objective response to your literal inquiry. I get you may have been being facetious.
I'm more American than you are. I am thinking it through as an American.
It is not our responsibility to take care of every foreigner who breaks into the USA.
They’re both criminals. Deport them both along their anchor babies.
I agree with you 100 percent...but that is way off subject as far as the context of my post. I must not have been clear judging by other replies similar to yours.
And, what legal american is paying the price because of stolen identity so this illegal can work for criminal wages?
Gee, up until about 5 years ago, I struggled every day to stay afloat.
It is what it is. If she cared about her family more than the freebies she’s leaching, they would all live back with her deported husband.
So that adds up to 5 times whatever you get per kid on the EBT card.
Heck, if my college roommate who crossed the Ocean and went through the forms to say he’said now a citizen of the United States instead of Russia can do it, why not others?
Economics. While the cost of living is cheaper in their home country, they don’t get welfare benefits and other subsidies. Also probably getting some type of Social Security money for all them chitlins...
IOW, the main bullet points in the USA promotional brochure that attracted them here in the first place. If America would close off... access... the free riders would have little incentive. Why buy the cow when the milk is free.
Syrup has been poured over every surface and now we've got to have a wall to block out the ants?
I'm in the 'ounce of prevention' camp. America needs to regain her self-respect and dignity foremost. The body can recover better than people might think if it's finally tended to properly.
Another sob story about illegals.
EXACTLY
Indeed. "in Spanish" is the key phrase of the whole article.
