Photos show Russian navy has left Syria port ahead of possible US strike
The Times of Israel ^ | 12APR18 | MICHAEL BACHNER

Russia has moved almost all of its warships from the port of Tartus in Syria ahead of a potential strike on the country by the United States, according to satellite images published Wednesday...Trump’s warlike tweets came in response to a warning from Russia’s ambassador to Beirut, who took to a television network run by the Hezbollah terror group to declare that any US missiles would be shot down “as well as the sources they were fired from.”

No one has a clue what Trump is going to do regardless of what he tweets. Mattis may not even know yet

people still have not figured this man out. He always starts a negotiation by stating his initial demand, which is usually extreme; where he is the only winner. However, he knows this has to be a win win for all, but he’s damn willing to be the only winner. That bring true negotiations to the table...I promise you that’s happening right now and why not shots are fired. I don’t think he ever really wanted to but they don’t know that. They do know he will...they think he’s crazy and know he is no Oblunder.

Stay calm folks...the man knows what he’s doing, even if he ends up letting them fly.

“Who’s ready for an attack?”

With our Navy running into other ships and god knows what else, I wouldn’t be surprised if they miss Syria entirely and hit Guam.

Obama left us with the finest, diversity focused officers in the Navy.

Can we crush the Russians in any naval engagement? Of course we can, and the Russians know that. Why would you presuppose that their only counter-strikes would be ship or ground based missiles? Perhaps they would prefer to hack our power grid and frame some other group or country. The Russians may be outgunned but they aren’t stupid.

The Russians are conducting naval exercises off of Syria's coast. That is why the ships left.

Now that they are out of port, we can sink these Russian Rust buckets with a great deal of sudden aplomb. The Russians think they can save themselves by exiting port? All they have done is enlarged the shooting gallery so more US sailors can join into the whole turkey shoot from beyond the Russian ship’s horizons.

I hope they high tail it all the way back to the Black Sea.

Obama left us with the finest, diversity focused officers in the Navy.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

US Navy ordinance will now only target White People, and non Muslims. A lot of community organizing money went into making sure that our ordnance was supervised by transgenders, gays and Muslims. We may now see how that works ?

Buahahahaha. We will see. Shoving some idiot transgender into a torpedo tube may have to be an option.

I’m sorry, but if Trump does nothing now, he - trust in him - will be hurt badly across all our allies, no matter what they may think about any action vis-a-vis Syria. France is supposedly on board, as well as U.K and the Saudis, and their publics and folks in the Middle East have been made aware of that. And then Trump does nothing? It makes for a “fool me once, but you won’t fool me twice” position from our allies. Bad “policy”. It further would support the position that Trump should have said nothing to start with. Then “backing down” is something only he knows.

It was a total of 11 ships docked, maybe a couple more cruising the Med, but what types they are would be interesting. Are they the heavy cruisers or destroyers which have the supersonic antiship missiles? Do they have the naval version of the S-300? There are only a couple of those left of the former Soviet navy in the Russian navy, but they might be players...

Oh I agree with you. Neither you or I can say anything certain without knowing the back story and intelligence findings. For example, if it comes to light that we can’t prove it was Assad, then I’d have to disagree with your assertion. Trump might have to eat some crow, but he wouldn’t do much damage with our allies. If he simply decides not to strike for other reasons, then maybe so.

“For example, if it comes to light that we can’t prove it was Assad”.

I would agree with you. in THAT instance, that Trump will have less egg on his face, but “western intelligence”, particularly CIA and State Department (more than DOD), and even some foreign services, as in France and U.K., will have considerable egg on their faces - AGAIN - and that will raise the bar higher the next time they have concerted critical claims to make. THAT too, though, given it’s possibility, is part of the reason Trump should have said nothing. It is not just his own reputation he put on the line, but that of intelligence officials reporting to him.

He should have (1) said our intelligence community is assessing all evidence, (2) said nothing about any possible U.S. response UNTIL, or maybe not even after, all U.S. intelligence assessments were completed and ONLY a consensus of a determination be given voice as to policy, and then (3) that consensus must agree the evidence is not just possibly but definitely pointing at Assad et al, or that it is insufficient, or insufficiently agreed, that it points to Assad. (4) Then only if the consensus agreed the evidence pointed to Assad might Trump take action, but still in my view it would not be action he would announce ahead of time.

They can certainly hack some of our systems. They’ve done that several times, and will do it again.
That’s not the only thing they can do. They can cripple global communication by cutting under-sea cables, shooting satellites out of orbit, or using biological warfare on us with one of the thousands of agents on the ground here.

I really don’t believe they’d try to go toe-to-toe with the US. At least not now.

Spot on, with the exception that Trump's words have caused the Russian military to move things around and scatter. Surveillance of this type of movement can provide outstanding military intelligence whether we attack or not.

It can tell us where Russia is embedded and thus reveal where Syria's key military equipment (command and control) is located. We have probably x satellites and x drones watching it all.
