IFI Update: ERA Passes Illinois Senate
Illinois Family Institute ^ | 4/11/2018 | Laurie Higgins

In a stunning display of ignorance, the Illinois State Senate just voted 43-12 in favor of the resolution to adopt the Equal Rights Amendment. What makes this vote even more enraging is that Republicans Pam Althoff (R-Crystal Lake), Jason Barickman (R-Pontiac), Mike Connelly (R-Wheaton), Karen McConnaughay (R-West Dundee), Chris Nybo (R-Hinsdale), Sue Rezin (R-Morris), and Tom Rooney (R-Palatine) voted with Democrats on this partisan resolution.

Is The ERA dead? Apparently the Illinois Senate doesn't think so. The resolution goes to the Illinois House. ILLINOIS FREEPERS, call your State Representative and tell them to vote NO on the ERA

The deadline for ratification expired in 1982.

Glad to see Illinois, which cannot balance its budget, fund its pensions, or pave its roads, taking the lead on this feel good liberal issue.

A very great deal of change has taken place in liberal and feminist assumptions since the 1970's, and the ERA as originally codified is likely to be a disaster for real women in view of the fact that "real" women no longer exist, or at least no longer compose a protected class. When all some hairy guy has to do is put on lingerie and say that he "identifies" as a woman to enjoy far more protection and privilege than someone who actually does possess two X chromosomes, we have a fairly major revolution in the pantheon of oppression. The looming failure of Title X is a case in point.

Most of this is a newer liberal political fantasy trumping an older one, but some of it is simply the cold, real world intruding on both. And it didn't take very long, either.

The ERA died in 1979. There was an attempt to add another 3 years to the ratification window, but the courts killed it because the wrong method was used.

This is nothing but virtue signaling.

The final deadline for ratification was June 1982. This vote, if it really happened, is nothing but political masturbation.

If ERA was put out there with no time limit, then it will eventually pass because once a state has passed an amendment a state cannot rescind its passage. There is no such rule or law but states rescinding in the past, even dropping the total below the three fourths necessary for passage have not stopped an Amendment from being added to the Constitution. Eventually we will be stuck with it and if the Republic is still extant at the point of passage then that will be the sudden and total end of the Republic. It is a totalitarian Amendment that essentialloy repeals the Constitution.

That it is, no doubt about it, but consider what might be taking place right now had it passed. OK, “equal” (in practice, superior) rights for women, but anyone gets to be one merely by claiming to be. What that actually does to the underlying class theory is absolutely comical.

If ERA passes the Illinois House, it's “game on”. Illinois Democrats never gave up on the ERA. This is the 14th time is has come to a vote.

If the Democrat majority in Illinois House passes the resolution this legislative session, it ultimately will be up to the Supreme Court to decide if is DOA or has been resurrected.

[rights for women]

ERA has never been about women.

It would add these words to the U.S. Constitution: “Equality of rights under law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex.”

ERA has always been about gender.

“Women in the USSR are accorded equal rights with men in all spheres of economic, state, cultural, social and political life. The possibility of exercising these rights is ensured to women by granting them an equal right with men to work, payment for work, rest and leisure, social insurance and education, and by state protection of the interests of mother and child, prematernity and maternity leave with full pay, and the provision of a wide network of maternity homes, nurseries and kindergartens.”

— 1936 USSR constitution, Article 122

“Women and men have equal rights in the USSR. Exercise of these rights is ensured by according women equal access with men to education and vocational and professional training, equal opportunities in employment, remuneration, and promotion, and in social and political, and cultural activity, and by special labor and health protection measures for women; by providing conditions enabling mothers to work; by legal protection, and material and moral support for mothers and children, including paid leaves and other benefits for expectant mothers and mothers, and gradual reduction of working time for mothers with small children.”

— 1977 USSR constitution, Article 35

“Women in the People’s Republic of China enjoy equal rights with men in all spheres of life, political, economic, cultural, social, and family life. The state protects the rights and interests of women, applies the principle of equal pay for equal work for men and women alike and trains and selects cadres from among women.”

— Red China constitution, Article 48
How “heartening” to see Dem and RINO alike to vote for Illinois to cast away the unique privilege of being in the first world, and to join the squalid second world. Whoever claimed communism to be dead was lying. Selling birthright for pottage.

And the misnomer “virtue signaling” ought to be called “vice signaling”, i.e. what it really is, because there is no virtue being referred to.

The deadline for ratification expired in 1982.
Remember it well. My Dad was a local Repub committeeman and I was in the Young Republicans. The proponents of this lunacy swore up and down that passage of this amendment would NOT, among other fears require women to share restroom facilities with men. HAHAHA

“The intention of the Illinois Senate Women’s Caucus is to advance legislation that supports, empowers and protects women of all aspects of life, and that’s exactly what we are doing today. Today, we are here together, Republican and Democratic women, to demonstrate our support of the Equal Rights Amendment, which ensures equality for all women…. This isn’t a partisan issue. It’s an issue that affects every single woman in this country. By coming together, we have a chance to make an impact at a national level for women d their all across the nation.

”Laurie Higgins of IFI explains their position

“Yes, nothing says non-partisan quite like a Constitutional amendment that will mandate taxpayer-funding of abortion, that will eradicate all abortion restrictions, that will end public recognition of sex differences in private spaces, and that will require women to register with the Selective Service.”

Don’t laugh. The Left has a secret plan for resurrecting this Zombie Amendment and slipping it into our Constitution.

Our justice system is so out of whack, they’ll forget the U.S. Constitution and go for the so-called loophole. PRAY.
