Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has spoken with people in the West Wing and in Congress about a new plan to knock the Russia investigation off the rails, according to a new report.
The Washington Post reported Wednesday night Bannon has a proposal he is presenting to people in President Donald Trump's circle. The plan is designed to protect Trump as the Department of Justice probe into Russia collusion continues.
The multi-pronged approach, according to the Post, includes firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, instructing the White House to stop cooperating with FBI special counsel Robert Mueller, and asking Trump to cite executive privilege both forward and backward, which would make interviews Mueller's team has conducted with White House staffers inadmissible to the investigation.
"The president wasn't fully briefed by his lawyers on the implications" of not invoking executive privilege, Bannon told the Post. "It was a strategic mistake to turn over everything without due process, and executive privilege should be exerted immediately and retroactively."
Bannon also suggested Trump should fire Ty Cobb, a member of the White House legal team working on the Russia matter.
Rosenstein is supervising Mueller's Russia investigation, which began last spring over allegations Trump's campaign colluded with Russia. Rosenstein signed off on the search warrant that led to Monday's raids at two offices, an apartment, and a hotel room tied to Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
Trump has indicated he might fire Mueller, which according to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is not allowed under the Code of Federal Regulations. Other reports say Trump may fire Rosenstein, which would be legal.
Bannon has yet to bring his ideas to Trump himself, according to the Post, instead having conversations with others over the phone and in person.

Good. But why is this in the news?
This should have happened quietly, privately, behind the scenes.
Didn’t McMaster fire Bannon? I think that McMaster should be prosecuted, and everyone that he fired should be rehired if possible.
Trump needs to pardon anybody that has ever been charged or questioned by Herr Mueller and keep doing it every time he talks to one of his people in the future.
Schumer says under the Code of Federal Regulations, not law.
Tell ya what Mr. Leaker....your law degree (not) doesn’t impress me
I don’t think he was ever a double agent. His loyalty has always been with the Rats.
Bannon didn’t tow the party line but he still put his country, not Russia and Syria, first.
And Putin has crossed a line. Not just with Syria. But with his antics in Europe. Doesn’t mean there will be *war*...but tone with Russia will take major shift under Trump. None of this Obama/Hilary/Bush reset nonsense.
Bannon is a patriot, a filmmaker, and a history/culture buff. He has called Los Angeles home for much of his life. He is not the Neo-Confederate white supremacist alt-righter the leftists painted him as being.
Bannon told the Post. “It was a strategic mistake to turn over everything without due process, and executive privilege should be exerted immediately and retroactively.”
i agree with bannon. he is exactly right. He, the President, is nothing less than a co-equal branch of gov’t. He should have given them nothing, nothing, nothing. trying to go fast, thinking he could make a deal with the deep state embeds, and the enemy uni-party congress. it wasn’t going to happen without a big political stick, which Trump will not have until he consolidates his own power.
now the best thing is to be patient. let God work. let deep state hang themselves out to dry, and pick them off one by one. give them nothing. rope-a-dope the gope and deep state. keep chipping away at them.
As long as it isn’t Trump who fires him. They’re trying to bait him into doing just that. I can see why he wanted to bring his daughter and son in law on board. He didn’t know who he could trust. (Not that I agree with having them there). It’s taking him a long time to get the right people around him, because Washington is full of smiley faced, lying backstabbers, who have been sent in to deceive him. God give him wisdom to discern whom to trust.
Don’t be fooled by the photos and stories of Bannon as published by the popular media. He’s no dummy. Have a look at his bio information.
I am not impressed either. If Bannon wasn’t playing a
game of “HEY, LOOK AT ME, I’M STILL HERE!” he would
have submitted his ideas confidentially, IMO.

Bannon is right. Fire Rosenstein and keep Mueller focused on Russia. It’s better to manage Mueller than to fire him.
Mueller is now chasing porn stars in clear violation of his mandate. Has Jeff Magoo commented on these latest developments yet?
Trump doesn’t need to fire Rosenstein
He just needs to tell Sessions to do it
Done and done
Bannon has a handle on it
Executive privilege forward and back is a stroke of genius
It’s Bannon’s MO. He wanted to be on the record, and he wanted the Trump base to know he had contacted the White House.
Does this trump the constitution?
McMaster successfully had Bannon removed from Trump’s National Security Adviser meetings, and also had previously removed a Bannon aide, who attended in Bannon’s absence.
I believe it was General Kelly, as Chief of Staff, who gave Bannon his walking papers, since Bannon was a White House presidential political adviser, ensconced in the West Wing.
