It may seem surprising for a liberal commentator like myself, but from 2010 to 2013, I worked in the most prominent den of American conservatism: Fox News. During my time at the network I came to realize how condescending Id been in my views about not only the people who worked at Fox News but the people watching at home. And condescension is just a snooty form of prejudice; we are only condescending to those we feel are inherently beneath us. The more I got out of my own liberal bubble, the more I met other conservatives who were neither stupid nor hateful or at least no more deliberately hateful than I was. Those experiences really challenged my biases and assumptions. Im not saying that Sean Hannity is the nicest person on the planet; his political views are certainly not anywhere near what I would reasonably call nice. What I am saying is that I realized that the person Id thought of as entirely cruel, as the caricature of a horrific right-wing monster, is actually caring and kind, and a good dad and a supportive friend. Including a supportive friend to me.

Colonel Flagg: This won't look good on your record.
Frank Burns: But Colonel, it's just Reader's Digest.
Colonel Flagg: Not if you eliminate the third, fifth, and sixth letters, then it's 'Red's Digest', comrade.
Compromise? I will not compromise on my individual, God-given right to keep and bear arms. Any substantive infringement on that right is both a violation of the supreme law of the land and something that will be seen as a prelude to a physical attack on me, on my family, and on my neighbors.
I will not compromise on abortion. Murdering an innocent, unborn child, whether for personal convenience or for the profit from selling body parts, is an act of pure evil. I know that I cannot stop evil from existing, but I will not participate in or fund evil without raising a fuss.
I will not compromise on Amnesty. The rule of law is a basic foundation of civilization. If government is going to systematically reward criminal actions, then our society will die. All illegals should be deported. No exceptions, at least in terms of what should happen. I'm willing to compromise in the sense that if we genuinely deport the non "DACA" illegals and genuinely enforce immigration law on new illegals, I'm okay with ignoring the existence of DACA illegals (so long as their illegal parents are deported) - no deportation until they commit another crime or leftists resume interfering with deportation of new illegals, but no citizenship or legal status.
I will not compromise in any way on religious freedom. Compelling a normal person to participate in a gay parody of a wedding is an act of pure evil, a gross violation of personal freedoms that are guaranteed by the Constitution. I would like to see everyone who has ever abused government authority in that manner locked up in prison for the rest of their lives. [18 U.S. Code SS 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law]
I don't view all leftists as evil. Most of their leaders are pure evil. Many leftist followers are merely compassionate people who are sadly misinformed or in many cases even brainwashed. The political Left has gone off the rails, and there is no reasonable compromise with their current positions. The reasonable compromise was passed in the 1930s when we compromised with socialism, and we have compromised repeatedly to again split the difference between our society's status quo and the ultimate goal sought by freedom's totalitarian enemies.
The clicker was when HRC came out stating (paraphrasing here) “You can’t silence me. If I wish to criticize this President, I’ve every right to do so. You are unable to stop me.”
From that point in time it progressively grew worse. The playing field was bloody with never a blade of green grass to be seen again. In reality, it was Bill’s Hill that pulled the curtain on the demons hiding in plain sight.
Maybe autocorrect is saying she should be the CEO of DU?
Autocorrect gets one right for a change!
Not buying it.
Wow, thanks for posting that.
Calling FOX news conservative is like calling your local drug dealer an unregistered pharmacist. Keep in mind guys like Bill Kristol consider themselves conservative( i know he works at national standard an not FOX) but they would not support President Trump if their lives depended on it. I happen to think their lives do depend on it, but I digress.FOX got onto the Trump train fairly late in the process and people like Meghan never got on board.
'Tis a matter of perspective.
Exactly. Calling Faux News conservative is a joke.
No clicks for TIME. Can we have a short summary of the rest?
“Fox is not remotely conservative”
Fox has more liberal commentators than both CNN and MSNBC has conservative commentators..... Combined.
Sal’s trying to sell a book.
Gore couldn't even win his home state. As in 2016, after discounting all the vote fraud, the RATs lost the popular vote as well as the EC.
She looks like Mark Zuckerberg’s older more masculine brother.
Compromising with bad policy is like adding a little sewage to your drinking water. No good can come of it.
And remember the early call from the networks which affected thousand of voters in the Florida panhandle, which may not have flipped the popular vote, but it would have flipped Florida, such that the recount would have not been necessary
When I think of sally kohn and the C word, convince is not even on my radar.
Cunning dyslexic runt, and so condescending, while she preaches piety...uggghhhh.
Good contribution to the discussion.
I think people are getting hung up on whether Fox News is conservative or not.
The real discussion should be the process of discourse.
Personally, I know enough of Leftism that it is based fundamentally on a faulty premise (that Utopia is achievable and that evil can be eradicated by eliminating things like poverty, ignorance, and disease) and that anything coming out of that flawed foundation is going to be fundamentally flawed as well, with some exceptions.
That said, I have stopped listening to leftist arguments because they almost all spring from that same well. Often they are not interested in discourse anyway. I am going out to dinner with a leftist who is a good friend next week, and if she wants to talk politics, I will gently suggest I am not interested.
We have talked politics before and she respects my point of view, but I am too angry right now about what I see going on with Mueller et al.
What a disaster...Sean’s political views are...”not nice.”
I usually make a distinction between liberal and leftist. The leftist claims to be a liberal, yet is in reality a raging totalitarian. A recent example very local to where I am is a city councilwoman who screamed obscenities at little girls simply due to her objections to their Trump T-shirts (Kellye Burke of West University Place, TX). The leftists want us dead. The liberals are getting to be few and far between. Most are dying off. Hubert Humphrey, a supporter of the Second Amendment for it’s intended reason, the guarantee against an arbitrary state and a safeguard against tyranny (his words). Henry Jackson. Recently Zell Miller. Gone.
The left is focused on only one thing, absolute power. There can be no common ground, even on local issues. If a conservative is for something, they must automatically be against it. It’s a knee jerk reaction, indicating a lack of critical thinking skills.
Just remember, Billy the Bomber Ayers, Barry Dunham’s political mentor, advocated killing 25 million people just because they would not go along with his “revolution” resulting in a totalitarian state.
The conservative and the left can not coexist.
