Washington (CNN) - Republican Sen. John McCain said Sunday that President Donald Trump's comments that the US military would leave Syria "very soon" had emboldened Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, resulting in the reported chemical weapons attack Saturday that killed dozens of the country's civilians.
"President Trump last week signaled to the world that the United States would prematurely withdraw from Syria," the Arizona senator said in a statement. "Bashar Assad and his Russian and Iranian backers have heard him, and emboldened by American inaction, Assad has reportedly launched another chemical attack against innocent men, women and children, this time in Douma."

McCain is most truly a man to be respected for the horrors that was inflicted on him as a POW. He was selected for particularly fierce torture due to his father being CINPAC (Commander in Chief Pacific Command) Despite though many differ he acquitted himself with great honor during captivity.
John McCain’s service in the Senate is an absolute disgrace for all he fought for.
The warrior McCain is a man to be honored. Senator McCain is a different man, and not a good man.

My brother was an electronics man for F4s in Vietnam, a “Phantom Fixer.” He meet with a few pilots after the war that he had worked on their Phantoms. He said those that went into captivity came back “F-up.” I admire McCain the pilot and POW. I do not admire the man that came back from captivity.

Regardless, Senator McCain’s hatred of President Donald J. Trump irks me to no end.
I voted for Trump and want to believe better but this “animal Assad” thing reminds me of the notion if we have to descend into name calling of millions of “animals” who have crossed our southern border with not enough being done to stop them.
I got all excited when I heard the National Guard was going down but when the details filled in that just a few thousand would go I realized that it was political window dressing and not the serious effort required to shut off the spigot of cheap labor entering the USA.
