A military airport in Syria has come under missile attack, the country's state media has reported.
Its air defence system was activated, the reports said.
Syrian TV said loud explosions had been heard near the T4 airfield in the city of Homs in the early hours of Monday.
Details are still emerging and the reports have not been independently verified.

We may never know for sure. Assad is a war criminal, but it appears he had the most to lose and the least to gain by using gas on a front where his forces were winning.
There is a lot of stuff going on in Syria and it is hard to follow, but it appears that Assad will retain control of at least part of the country, the rebels (an odd bunch of bedfellows to be sure) are losing because they have no air power and cannot compete against Russia and Iran, and Israel is going to find itself in a precarious position given the Iranian power now in Syria. It is possible that the Israeli’s used this opportunity to hit Hamas targets at the airfield given the recent attacks.
It is a muddy mess trying to sort it all out, but one thing is certain - the chances of chemical weapons being used against Israel will be far more likely with an Iranian (er, Assad) win. What a mess the Arab Spring has turned out to be....

In my opinion, what Israel does not want is Iran gassing its cities. So, when they found out that Iran was behind the gas attacks in Syria, they struck an Iran supported base in Syria which was the source of the gas. That base could be used to attack Israel.

This is really really bad.
Israel didn’t follow protocols and Russia thought the US had made the strike. There were Russian planes en route to attack US warships before they figured it out.
It was Israel, sub launched missiles.
They did not tell everyone they were supposed to tell about it, and nearly started WW3 this morning.
Getting very hard to avoid the conclusion that Israel just set us up to be retaliated against for their strike.
