A Florida high school student is charging that she was wrongly humiliated by school administrators over going bra-less to class, just because she is a girl, going the full discrimination protest route. And shes getting a lot of help in her gender-ized victimhood from her mother.
The incident came about when the 17-year-old female Braden River High School student, in Bradenton, Fla., went to school in a loose top without a bra. Her teacher notified school administrators that the revealing outfit was being a distraction in class and administrators told her to put a T-shirt on under her loose shirt. But the female administrator thought the girls nipples remained too prominent. The administrator sent the girl to the nurses office to put four band-aids on to X out her nipples.
This was a moment of understandable humiliation and consternation for the student, but did not result in a self-reflection on personal choices. It quickly turned to self-righteous indignation and, of course, victimhood. She was trained well along the way that her actions did not result in consequences, but that she was the victim of the patriarchy.
I felt very attacked because of my gender, the girl told the local newspaper.
Naturally.
Its not like she was a teen girl in a class with hormone-raging teen boys making a clear display of herself in a way guaranteed to distract boys in the class. At that age, she probably distracted girls, too, albeit in a different way.
The girl comes by her gender victimhood honestly. A lot of the response seems driven by her mother, who has been all over school officials for their actions, rather than helping her daughter learn how to function in society.
Her mother told the local newspaper that the districts policy is sexist and administrators need to prove intent when determining if a students outfit is vulgar. Intent? So if a student showed up naked to school but with no intent to be vulgar maybe its art or maybe its a protest then they should not be in violation of dress code?
We should not treat a girl like this because of where her fat cells decided to distribute genetically, the mother said. Fat cells have decision-making powers?
Theres not a lot of clear thinking going on here. But dont think the district is not worried. Because these are the times in which we live.
The school districts lawyer, Mitch Teitelbaum, said the incident should have been handled better without saying how exactly but that the decision to ask the girl to adjust her clothing was correct. It is undisputed that this matter should have been handled differently at the school level, and corrective measures have been taken to prevent a re-occurrence in the way these matters will be addressed in the future, Teitelbaum said.
Teitelbaum said the girl was in violation of the dress code in the student code of conduct prohibiting students from wearing clothes that expose underwear or body parts in an indecent or vulgar manner or attire that disrupts the orderly learning environment.
There is nothing specific about girls wearing bras. But then, it was probably written at a time when a certain amount of common sense and decency prevailed. Again, not these times.
You would not ask this kind of stuff of a male, the girls mother protested. If a male was wearing basketball shorts, and somebody thought they could see his package, you would never ask him to stand up and move around.
Actually, I seriously doubt that. Quite sure that student would be asked to adjust his clothing. Thats actually indecent exposure, which is against the law. But again, thoughtful common sense is not at the forefront here.
The aggrieved girl is now going full-scale protest by you guessed not wearing bras to school anymore. She tweeted out her intent with Stop sexualizing my body @piratenationhs. That was after she tweeted My school basically told me that boys education is far more important than mine and I should be ashamed of my body. And, importantly, that was after she re-tweeted in March a tweet stating: i f**king hate this country.
Sigh.
How could a photo that revealing be such a downer, but Portman sure managed to pull it off.
GAK!
Heaven forfend and I didn’t get that impression.
I think she was assaulted, told to move around so the principal could evaluate her breast motion. How would that feel to a young girl?
It’s pretty natural to argue that boys don’t have to wear bras and they aren’t specified in the school dress code. That was the time for a little reality- birds and bees talk- rather than “put on band aids”. It’s the difference between imparting some wisdom, and perspective and saying do it because I told you. One makes you resent authority & act out the other makes you think. The dose of shame administered would have made her much less amenable to a logical discussion.
HRC would have been looking to insight a conflict and use it to further her own ends. This girl does not appear to have been looking for attention. There are much more obvious ways to attract the male eye than by wearing a baggy t shirt. The point to convey is that the impression you make doesn’t depend on your intent and you can generate an impression that will result in situations it would be better to avoid.
I fully support the right of high school girls to go to school braless. No really, I don’t think it’s the job of school administrators to enforce the usage of underwear. Nipples are a fact of life. Even with a bra, depending on the type, they can be easily noticeable sometimes. Stupid school administrators.
I could maybe see this was a sin if this was one of the northern states but Florida, come on.
I agree. Much noise about nothing here. Every woman has boobs, so what's the big deal. I was in Las Vegas for the last few days. You see all kinds of things on the strip in town. There were some strippers wearing nothing but thongs, and pasties on their nipples, walking the sidewalks to see if tourists wanted pictures alongside the naked women.
You'd think young men would be jumping at the chance. Nope. I saw an Indian family in traditional India clothing stop, the elder ladies at the side of the strippers with two young children standing between them, posing for pictures. I mean, boobs hanging out with pasties, and the young boys (perhaps 8 or 10 years old) smiling bigly. The picture was quite a disconnect for me visually.
Girls dont always understand at that age what a hormone storm they unleash without any intent. If you look at the picture she didnt deserve to be humiliated only counseled to make wiser choices.
______________
seriously? I knew exactly what I was doing...
17? Looks like some hard miles on her already. She should consider some support if she does not want them at waist level in 20 years.
Yet if a student were to say that in the schools track team, the boys are faster than the girls in the 100 yard dash, with no intent to be sexist, intent in this instance does not matter. The student is to be punished for incorrect "thought". Nothing angers libs more than showing that reality does not agree with their approved view of the world. Liberal mental gymnastics on display.
Perhaps she had been crying if this was when she got home that day.
Also food for thought
“But the question is: is it BETTER to wear a bra? To this end, Jean-Denis Rouillon (and someone who I believe is associated with him, Laetitia Pierrot) has been looking at a lot of boobs. For science. Like you do.
I’m not sure whether the original investigation was all about boob sag or back pain and bra wearing (various media coverage includes both, but again, there’s no paper, so I can’t be sure), but the preliminary data so far has followed 320 women, ages 18-35, some of whom went braless for a year. During this time, they had their breasts measured with calipers, and Rouillon’s preliminary reports report an average INCREASE in perk by 7mm in the braless women.”

If a guy behaves in a certain “enticing” way towards a girl, according to the girl’s reaction to the guy’s behavior, then the guy is “guilty” of “sexual aggression” by the mere accusation and no “intent” on his part needs to be proved; according to current feminist “gender” theory.
Yet, under that same theory, no matter how a young female is alluring dressed, or has lack thereof, she cannot be said to be either offending anyone or be coming on to anyone, UNLESS THOSE THINGS CAN BE PROVEN TO BE HER INTENT.
One standard for the “gender-victim” “social warrior” and a different one for any male the feminist theory wants to make accusations about.
From older national Geographic magazine evidence, this study is ridiculous. You cannot defy gravity.
When I was about 15 I made mumblings about not wearing a bra because ‘why, bras are hot and uncomfortable’.
My grandmother excused herself and I heard her rummaging around in a closet in the spare bedtoom.
She emerged with a 1960’s National Geographic magazine. She thumbed through it for a few seconds and presented me with a picture of (topless of course) African tribal ladies posed for a picture.
‘They don’t wear bras either, that’s what your boobs will look like if you never wear a bra’.
me: ‘I’ll be wearing that bra every single day from now on!’.
If the chick in the gray shirt is indeed the young lady in question, the nipple visible on the left side of the picture has already begun to aim toward the floor. By the time she’s 30 her nipples will be touching her stomach.
I’m sure she knew what she was doing. She was wearing a shirt she had been given as a gift and she was going to school.
What she was perhaps not aware of was people who would BOTLO for nipples as though they were something dirty. People who did not have her interests at heart but wanted to power trip. A suggestion that a cami might still be comfortable but wouldn’t distract the guys in class would have been a helpful approach, what was done was not.
That is an old wives tail I first heard 40 years ago. Bras don’t keep breasts higher once they are removed.
A bra will hold up your breasts to give you the shape and look you want, but it can’t prevent further sagging, which is caused by age and gravity, says Dr. Mills. In fact, one French researcher even suggested last year that wearing a bra encourages sagging by weakening the breast’s supporting tissue.Nov 21, 2014
Well it’s too late for this particular chick, hers are already saggy. And her only 17.
I dispute the ‘researcher’ though, based on girls i’ve known my whole life and who wore bras and who did not when we were young. Even before we had babies the non bra wearers had saggy boobies. That weren’t saggy boobed when we were teens.
Well that is the beginning of a study but doesn’t really ring the bell for me.

“For generations, women have been advised that wearing a bra would keep breasts from sagging, prevent back pain and improve posture.
Wrong, wrong and wrong, according to a study conducted by Jean-Denis Rouillon, a sports medicine specialist from the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire in Besancon, France.
“Medically, physiologically, anatomically breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity,” Rouillon said, as quoted on TheLocal.fr. “On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra.” [The Cleavage Countdown: 8 Facts About Breasts]
Rouillon should know: Since 1997, he has been studying the breasts of 330 volunteers ages 18 to 35 using a slide ruler and a caliper to record the changes in breast position as the women aged, CBSNews.com reports.
His meticulous research revealed that women could experience about a 1/4-inch (7-millimeter) lift in the nipples each year they didn’t wear a bra, news site Counsel & Heal reports.
The researchers involved in the study suggested that bras which Rouillon now calls “a false necessity” discourage the growth of supporting breast tissue, leaving the breasts to sag more quickly.
Other research has challenged the conventional wisdom that breast-feeding causes breast ptosis (sagging). A 2007 study of 132 women revealed that breast-feeding had no effect on the degree of breast sagging.
What did affect breast ptosis, that research revealed, was age, smoking status and the number of times a woman had become pregnant.”
All in all I view bras as a personal choice and would reject the idea that wearing them is healthier. Just be aware that you want to avoid inviting attentions you are uncomfortable with or distracting others and interfering with school or work. That’s good manners.
No, you are not wrong, but I meant it with a little more tongue in my cheek.
I am not one of those "she was asking for it" guys, but there are some of those out there and if she thinks she can dress provocatively anytime and anywhere, she should not be surprised if and when she meets one.
