Gowdy: Trump should let Mueller interview him
The Hill ^ | April 4, 2018 | John Bowden

Posted on 04/04/2018 7:48:47 AM PDT by Pinkbell

South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy (R) urged President Trump to interview with special counsel Robert Mueller in order to help wrap up the Russia probe on Wednesday, arguing the president is "uniquely" qualified to answer many of Mueller's questions.

In an interview with CNN, the chairman of the powerful House Oversight and Government Reform Committee argued that speaking with Mueller is not "risky" for Trump if he has nothing to hide.

"Only he knows what he knows. So I would tell you, if you did not rob a bank there is no reason for you not to sit down and talk with the FBI about the bank robbery," Gowdy said.

"If you have nothing to hide, sit down. Assuming a fair prosecutor, and I think Mueller is, sit down and tell him what you know," Gowdy added. "I think he is uniquely well-positioned to answer some of the questions that not just the special counsel but the American people have."

Gowdy's remarks come after a Washington Post report Tuesday night revealed that Trump was not the "target" of Mueller's investigation but rather the "subject," a distinction that Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor, said is "meaningless" to him but means a great deal more to the FBI.

"I don't think those terms, target versus subject...the only word that matters to me in the criminal justice system is defendant," Gowdy said. "So if you're not the defendant, whether you're the target or the subject, I know the FBI gets really caught up in those two words, [but] as a former federal prosecutor they're meaningless to me."

I respect and agree with Trey Gowdy because he's been able to squeeze people for answers.

Remember, his committee came to the conclusion...no collusion.

The Dems gave Gowdy and Nunes a real hard time and they stuck their necks out.

Gowdy has outed himself as part of the conspiracy.

The little punk wants to be part of the winning gang if they can pull off this coup.

Gowdy is talking like this is a real investigation of a real crime, and he knows damn well that neither is true.

The entire thing has been shown to be constructed frame.

Guys like Gowdy tell people to cooperate when they want to swindle them. He knows that this “investigation” is way off the rails, with one goal: find something, anything on Trump whether it has to do with Russia, Assange or the guy he did his last deal with.

That’s all. We can all see it as you said: Mueller has ignored EVERYTHING that the Rats did, and are still doing. It is the most egregious abuse of the Justice system against a President of the United States that I have seen in my life. Their conspiracy is plain to see, out in the open, and frauds like Gowdy conveniently tiptoe around that.

Trump should NEVER cooperate with this fraudulent “investigation” - doing so would legitimize it. And it is ENTIRELY illegitimate, a concoction of Comey, Rosenstein and Mueller in service to their real masters in the Clinton gang.

Having the President testify would give Mueller’s farce the imprimatur of legitmacy that he would then use to move the ball two steps closer to the goal: filing false charges against the President on completely unrelated matters. Somewhere out there in his tax returns or a contract is something that a pair of hoaxters like Weissman and Mueller can hang their hats on and every lawyer knows it.

Trump is right again. This is a witch hunt, a total fabrication with no basis, in fact it is worse: the basis was a total fraud.

You do know the house can’t prosecute anyone right. The justice department must do that. The Obama just us department was not going to prosecute any of his crimes or appoint a special council to do it.

Gowdy is all mouth, but no teeth. He’s just another GOPe globalist who can’t wait to see POTUS impeached.

"If you have nothing to hide, sit down."

B.S. NEVER talk to investigators/prosecutors unless you really have to, and then only through the best lawyer(s) you can afford. That's just common sense. Otherwise, you're just covering yourself with blood and jumping into the shark tank.

No attorney worth listening to will advise you to speak with anyone with potential power over you because you are "innocent" ... that you "have nothing to hide".

The infinitessimally small amount of "potential gain" do not offset the "potentially significant exposure".

Several excellent videos on You Tube explain this in great detail.

Gowdy shut up and let Joe diGenova handle it. As a lawyer, you ought to know that when someone has legal representation, another lawyer’s interference with that personal attorney-client relationship is an ethical violation.

There is no claim of a crime having been committed. This taxpayer funded witchhunt needs to stop.

If Mueller’s intent is sincere and the point of the interview is not to entrap Trump in a process crime, then Mueller should grant Trump blanket immunity prior to the interview.
