California Considering Unprecedented Law Restricting Police Firearm Use

On the heels of police officers shooting a young, unarmed black man to death in Sacramento, California, last month, state lawmakers announced a first-of-its-kind bill on Monday that raises the standard for when officers may open fire.

The proposed legislation would change the guidance in California’s use of force laws so that police may open fire ”‘only when necessary’ rather than ‘when reasonable,’” Sacramento-based Assemblyman Kevin McCarty (D), said at a press conference Tuesday.

Every cop should take their badges, keeping their weapons, and plant them on the governor’s/mayor’s desk and tell them to police their state and cities! On the way out, a good old “adios MF” would be in order.

The hard truth is those running the corrupt CA government hate cops, white folk, America, our sovereignty, our history and our freedom. No joke.

Let me add one more to the CA government hate list ---- 'Christians'.

"... a first-of-its-kind bill on Monday that raises the standard for when officers may open fire."

No it doesn't. It's a word game.

Going from "When Reasonable" to "When Necessary"...

BFD. For civilians who carry, it has always been "When Absolutely Necessary!

The one “stand down” rule on police I’d very much like to see is a real limitation on high speed road chases.

It should be against the law for the perps to drive at high speeds to avoid being caught!

Wonder who's gonna step up and enforce the law?

If this results in more police deaths, they are going to have a damn difficult time putting police on the street. It's a pretty thankless job, damned if they do and maybe dead if they don't.

That would be great as long as the lawyer has to stand between the cop and the perp. Sounds like a win-win situation.

“Make the police abide by the same firearms and magazine capacity laws that the California civilian population have to observe.“

Ah, just as the founders intended. (Not that the founders intended the crazy CA gun laws, but they certainly intended the law to apply equally to all citizens)

Define "only when necessary" - does that mean if the bad guy shoots you first you can fire a warning shot in hopes he will run away instead of finishing the job?

Gonna be a lot of affirmative action, hand-picked idiots wearing the uniform in Kalifornia because no sane person will want the job.

I think they’d be better off if they tightened the rules for what is covered by “qualified immunity”. If the cops actions are questionable, let him sit before a jury, just like any of us would be if we were involved in a questionable shooting. The jury can decide if the cop was “reasonable” in his use of force or not.
