The only thing that needs to be written about it is that it's a f--king stupid idea.
Why wouldn’t the .gov just build its own cloud?
Or contract the work to build it.
I was talking to a guy a few weeks ago. It was a business conversation but the guy was basically a stranger to me. He actually told me that his wife handled all computer services for one of America’s intelligence agencies for some company she worked for.
It was plausible given the area we were in but I’d think both she and him would be a little more circumspect about sharing that.
Commercial of the shelf stuff usually wins as you get to piggyback off of market driven research and development. It may actually be good as forcing cloud providers to get up to par with pentagon security requirements may filter out into commercial cloud offerings.
May also be a huge boondoggle that ends up being a cyber gut wound.
Could there be, perhaps, some security concerns with this?
Yea. Effing stupid and then some.
I would think so too.
I think distributed data, as opposed to concentrated data is the way to go. Obama holdovers be damned.
Skynet.
That is what this is about. This is not putting it out on the public cloud. This is building a private cloud for the pentagon.
I also think multiple would be a very bad idea since you would then have to have the ability to talk to each other opening up an avenue of attack.
Im sure the Pakistanis could do it cheaper. Many dems have dealt with them already and would provide letters of recommendation?
Flies in the face of military strategy; all eggs in one target/basket has never been a good idea. Dispersed with a variety of platforms would be more difficult to bring down.
Haha...
But you’d want to bring them all here on H1B visas, first. And their relatives.
Always best for America.
What was the line from Matt Damon (as Howard Hughes) ? Its the way of the future . . . Whatever
COMMENT OF THE DAY!!!
I consider that to be a good idea.
However, the government is trying to find a company to do the work because the government is largely giving up. The Civil Servants and Perfumed Princes who have been trying to manage IT Projects for DOD have done a terrible job over the years and they are throwing in the towel. They hope some H1-Bs out in Silicon Valley will do a better job. I mean -- what's the worst that could happen?
Amazon is already heavily involved providing ‘cloud’ service to ‘government’, including the Pentagon.
MAGA never stops being interesting.
Maybe it’s actually cheaper to go back to paper.
Who knows what goes on in the minds of those in the five-sided puzzle-palace.
