Why wouldn’t the .gov just build its own cloud?

Or contract the work to build it.

Commercial of the shelf stuff usually wins as you get to piggyback off of market driven research and development. It may actually be good as forcing cloud providers to get up to par with pentagon security requirements may filter out into commercial cloud offerings.

May also be a huge boondoggle that ends up being a cyber gut wound.

That is what this is about. This is not putting it out on the public cloud. This is building a private cloud for the pentagon.

I also think multiple would be a very bad idea since you would then have to have the ability to talk to each other opening up an avenue of attack.

I’m sure the Pakistanis could do it cheaper. Many dems have dealt with them already and would provide letters of recommendation?

I consider that to be a good idea.

However, the government is trying to find a company to do the work because the government is largely giving up. The Civil Servants and Perfumed Princes who have been trying to manage IT Projects for DOD have done a terrible job over the years and they are throwing in the towel. They hope some H1-Bs out in Silicon Valley will do a better job. I mean -- what's the worst that could happen?
