Israel said on Monday it has cancelled a plan to deport African migrants to Africa and reached an agreement with the U.N. refugee agency to send more than 16,000 to Western countries instead.
Other migrants, many of whom are seeking asylum, will be allowed to remain in Israel for at least the next five years, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus office said in a statement.
The fate of some 37,000 Africans in Israel has posed a moral dilemma for a state founded as a haven for Jews from persecution and a national home. The right-wing government is under pressure from its nationalist voter base to expel the migrants, while others are calling for them to be taken in.
In February, Israel started handing out notices to 20,000 male African migrants giving them two months to leave the country or risk being thrown in jail.

Methinks Israel has outsmarted the UN and has afforded Western Nations an educational opportunity.
I'm sure they'll fit right in.
How did those Africans get into Israel in the first place? It’s not easy to get to Israel from sub-Saharan Africa, and Israel is strict about who they let into the country.
If helping these refugees is such a priority for the UN, why doesn't the UN set up protected camps for them in their home countries, and take on the responsibility of feeding and guarding them?

UN said you can’t deport them and worked out a deal to send them to Europe
Because the UN consists of the other countries?
I thought Israel was our friend? Maybe not...
Figures. Prime Minister Toosie Pop never heard of an illegal immigrant that he didn’t want in Canaduh.
Monday, October 21, 2019 cannot come soon enough!
How about running them through boot camp, arming them & THEN returning them to their country to deal with whatever is the issue.
If they are not good enough for Africa, why should the West take them?
Sorry about that.
CatQuilt: I thought Israel was our friend? Maybe not...
Israel is basically dumping trash in our yard. Not cool, Israel.
Does the UN have control over the immigration policies of all its member countries?
Theyre not going to Europe?
They sure seem to think so. Somali has the population density of Kansas, the climate of California and 2000 miles of coastline abutting one of the world’s busiest trade routes. It would be the perfect location for the UN to set up its multicultural utopia and show the rest of the world how it should be done.
Of course not.
U R right. Saw the final scene in Blackhawk Down. Beautiful place. Plenty of room for these ‘folks’ but WE, not the UN would have to oversee the relocation process with OPEC footing the bill.
Well then I still don’t have the answer to my original question.
The most concise and accurate description of Dustbin comes from a University of Toronto Professor, Jordan Peterson. He calls Turd-owe a 'Peter Pan', a spoiled little rich boy, who never grew up. Very true and very accurate. He is even more of an 'empty suit' than Bathhouse Barry was. Get back to teaching drama class, Dustbin.
