GOP strategist to Trump: A ‘storm is coming’ in Russia investigation

A Republican strategist on Sunday warned President Trump to build up his dwindling legal team because a “storm is coming” in the form of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Alex Castellanos, who has worked on campaigns for Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney, told ABC’s “This Week” it’s hard to believe that “Robert Mueller is not going to dig up something in Trump’s complicated financial history to say, ‘Look, the president of the United States did this and it was wrong.'”

He went on to say a switch in Republicans’ fortune in Congress after November’s mid-term elections could bring dire consequences for the Trump presidency.

“And it’s hard to believe then that when Republicans lose the House in 2018, maybe by 40 or 50 seats, that the House is not going to impeach him,” Castellanos said.

“And it’s also hard to believe that a U.S. Senate that’s going to be scared to death, though may still be in Republican hands, is not going to take a serious look when it has to deal with this president,” he said. “So get good legal help now, because the storm is comin

It’s not the number of lawyers on your team, it’s the tenaciousness of the ones you have.

Let’s cut to the chase:

It’s true that Whitewater was begun to investigate the senior citizen scam that the Clinton’s were part of. But the special prosecutor was permitted to investigate other crimes if they arose. Because permission was granted to him by the DOJ - heasn’t some independent operator here, like Mueller is.

That said, BJC could have stopped all of this. All he had to do was settle with Paula Jones, which noted cheapskate HRC refused to allow him to do. Once he didn’t do this, any other evidence of WORKPLACE SEXUAL MISCONDUCT walked right in the front door, ending with BJC lying on camera to the courts.

Do not forget that Clinton lost his law license over this. That dingbat he is married to could have prevented his problems.

The difference is, DJT is not accused of any misconduct IN OFFICE.

Clinton's misconduct that invoked the special counsel was prior to him taking over the Presidency. His at the time alledged misconduct occurred while Governor and more likely fell more on Mrs. Clinton since the Rose Law Firm was something of an epicenter of the activity. Clinton lost his law license, not over White Water, but his lack of candor in the Paula Jones episode.

I guess we're not concerned if Trump was legal or not in his dealings whether they be collusion or business dealings.

Not quite. Monica Lewinsky emerged as a witness in the Paula Jones lawsuit. Ken Starr had nothing to do with that. Lewinsky then took on an outsized importance because she had confided her story to Linda Tripp who, seeing major crininal issues hurtling her way, had the good sense to tape record the conversations. Then the Clinton damage control team swung into action to silence Lewinsky. This involved several of the same people who were ubiquitous in the various other Clinton scandsls. The common denominatot that drew Starr’s eventual engagement was obstruction of justice, which was the underlying Clinton legal stance from day one, with the Whitewater investigation. If Clinton’s lawyers ever wrote an homest memoir, it would be quite a read. As it stands, Linda Tripp has the distinction of being the only person to come out of the Clinton White House telling the trurh about anything substantive.

Mueller is a disgrace to the USA. I pray his possession with succeeding because he failed before don’t start mass riots. This has gone on to long. It now seems like a lynching instead of a investigation. Mueller needs to an_g or get.

Ken Starr's portfolio was expanded a couple of times by DOJ as the Clinton scandals just kept coming. Obstruction of justice was a common denominator. Starr was never involved with perhaps the worst (excepting rape) of the Clinton scandals, the criminal campaign finance operation in 1995-96 that essentially stole the '96 election.

So: you are correct that the Lewinsky matter didn't involve Whitewater. But Whitewater was just the tip of the iceberg of Clinton criminality. It looms large in our historical memory simply because it was the first of many to reach public notice.

And Russia, if indeed a fact, may also be just the tip of Trump and any illegalities. Only an thorough investigation will reveal illegalities or give an all clear.

This is just my uneducated guess, but I do believe the Trump campaign worked with Russian operatives to gain campaign information. I'm not sure of Trump's personal involvement. I believe that there will be evidence of money laundering in the Trump organization and possible other corruption activities.
