One in five Americans wants the Second Amendment to be repealed, national survey finds

One consequence of the success of the National Rifle Association's expansive gun-rights agenda — and its lobbying power in Congress — is that groups favoring more gun control have pared down their ambitions in recent years.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, for instance, no longer talks about banning handguns. Advocates have moved away from the term “gun control” in favor of more specific language like “gun violence” and “gun safety.” Democratic leaders in Congress have grown timid about proposing significant new restrictions on gun ownership.

In that context it's a bit of a jolt to read an op-ed published Tuesday by retired Supreme Court justice John Paul Stevens titled “Repeal the Second Amendment.” Stevens is something of an expert on the issue, having considered the proper scope of the Second Amendment in the 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller.

“Abortion is NOT in the Constitution..when will that be repealed?”

That’s guaranteed to make their pointy little heads explode.

If I were a Member of Congress, I would introduce a repeal amendment tomorrow - because until this is voted on and shot down, we are not going to hear the end of it.

When it comes to the Second Amendment I don’t read it as a stand alone item. I also read the preamble to the Declaration of Independence (1776) to more fully understand the 2nd Amendment (1789).

Both documents are contemporary to each other written and debated by the same men living through an extremely unusual period of history.

Once you read the preamble you easily understand why the second amendment was written the way it was and why it was ranked so highly in the Bill of Rights.

Too bad civics teachers from middle school to post graduate studies don’t understand this. “So Sad”.

I’d like to see the Lefty S.O.B.’s try to repeal the 2nd Amendment. They haven’t got a chance in hell.So they have to scare the snowflakes into making noise.

This too will go away.

And I would imagine at least as many who want the 2nd repealed would like abortion stopped....probably more....maybe they should stop talking guns for now and start repealing the insane SCOTUS decision that infanticide for convenience is a protected “right”....once that is done they can resume banging their heads against the wall over an actual Constitutional Right...
