Baton Rouge: Police officers won’t be charged in 2016 shooting death of Alton Sterling

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced Tuesday prosecutors will not bring criminal charges against the two Baton Rouge police officers who fatally shot Alton Sterling.

Sterling, a 37-year-old black man, was shot by two white police officers in July 2016 outside a convenience store.

"This decision was not taken lightly," Landry said in a news conference following a meeting with Sterling’s five children. “We came to this conclusion after countless hours of reviewing the evidence.”

The officers' actions were "well-founded and reasonable," he added.

The officers — Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II — were responding to a call that a man had threatened someone with a gun. Sterling was outside a convenience store selling CDs when the two officers encountered him.

They both wrestled him to the ground during the 90-second encounter. Salamoni was the one who ultimately fired his weapon.

The Department of Justice opened a civil rights investigation on July 7, 2016, and announced on May 2, 2017, it would not bring federal civil rights charges against the two officers.

Sterling’s death sparked a string of demonstrations across Louisiana — which took place a day after the shooting death of Philando Castile in Minnesota by a police officer — as well as other Black Lives Matter protests around the country.

I remember the name but none of the details about it. Article doesn’t say much either.

Are you kidding. There were butt-loads of BLM riots right after the Alton Sterling shooting.

There will certainly be more now.

Attorney General Landry has taken Governor John Bel Edwards to court six times and amazingly won every time! He is legit; if he says there is no evidence, there isn’t.

I trust him but I still want to know about the part between “they found him selling cds...” and “they wrestled him to the ground.”

Good news. Notice how quick the media is to identify people by race when it fits their agenda? Had this been a simple liquor store robbery, we would have been left to guess the color of those involved. Something we have gotten very good at.

This guy was selling bootleg CD’s in the parking lot of a store. Cops showed up and he got squirrelly, they ended rolling around on the ground with him. Dude had a gun in his front pocket and went for it. Cop on top of him pressed his pistol to perp’s chest and shot him at contact range. There is video of it all. President Obama called the family.

Now, what’s not told is that this guy had been recently released for prison because (wait for it) he’d been convicted after being arrested for selling bootleg cd’s, while carrying a gun, and had resisted arrest. In that incident the cop had time to tase him and disarm him. Groundhog Day but this time a different ending.

Short story:

He resisted, kept resisting even after they approached and put their hands on him; wrestled him to the ground; he kept resisting and when he went for the gun he was carrying, they shot him.

The police did not follow the BLM script; were supposed to let him murder them to prove they were not racist.

Wow... everything I’ve read basically said it was two rogue white cops shooting him down in cold blood.

imagine my surprise, he was a recently released felon, back doing the same thing he was arrested for previously, and with a gun.
