McConnell's Embarrassment: Democrats, Not Republicans, Passed Omnibus Bill
newsmax ^ | March 24, 2018 | By John Gizzi

"All you need to know why this was a bad bill is to look at the roll call," a long-time Republican lobbyist emailed me Saturday, referring to the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending law.

Of course, he's right.

President Donald Trump reluctantly signed the $1.3 trillion spending bill Friday, but a careful review of the crucial Senate vote shows it was Democratic members, not Republicans, that actually passed the bill.

In another major embarrassment to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, his own Republican caucus opposed the very bill he negotiated.

The omnibus bill passed the Senate by a vote of 65 to 32 (with three abstentions).

Of the 65 "for" votes, 39 Democratic senators supported the bill with only 25 Republicans signing on. Republicans control the Senate with 51 seats.

Of the 32 "against" votes, 23 were Republicans, including stalwart conservatives such as Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Cory Gardner of Colorado, Rand Paul of Kentucky,Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Mike Lee of Utah.

Democrats were so excited about the bill's passage, they could not contain their glee.

"We Democrats feel very good because so many of our priorities for the middle class were included," beamed Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, a Democrat from New York.

Schumer was especially happy because chief among his priorities was the funding for a $30 billion the infrastructure project in New York known as the Gateway program.

If you pay attention to today’s threads and actually read them you would learn that who voted doesn’t matter as much as who did the writing.

Turns out both Ryan and Mcconnell did a good job

I am not sure that everyone understands what Trump just did. He Pelosied the Democrats. Remember when Nancy Pelosi said “we will have to pass the bill before you know what is in it.” No one read the Omnibus bill. The devil is in the details. The first two things I noticed was that the Taylor Force Act, which will defund Palestinian terrorism from the US, and that the US Corps of Engineers will build the wall - fully funded by the US Army. I believe this is what Q referred to as Red Castle, Green Castle. The Corpse, as Obama referred to it, is the one large Agency that is capable of building ‘the Wall’ with Independent Financing. I coined the term “Pelosizing’ to refer to spending money without a budget by Presidential decree. This is an “omnibus bill”, not a budget.

It took whole 43 posting before common sense finally entered the thread.

Trump won big with this Omnibus thing -- basically, it's just "turn about is fair play." Pelosi and Schumer are crowing about how much they got done while being in the minority yet Trump doesn't have to spend a dime on anything he doesn't want to spend money on --- IT WAS NOT A BUDGET!!!!

This 22 minute video concisely details how Trump (and we conservatives) actually won BIGLY !

What's better - -- the Dems just went on a 2-week recess and to a man are too stupid to figure out what Trump just did to them.

Why do you think Trump declared Friday that building the Wall starts on Monday?

A little condescending, no? Not a nice look.
So, who are the House and Senate leaders, and by definition should be doing the "leading"?
Go ahead, say it, SAY IT! "Nancy Ryan". There, I knew you could....

Not my idea. Apparently, you haven’t seen what POTUS has tweeted.

I don’t need luck, people who support the dumbasses in Congress do.

A wall isn't going to matter when you spend 500 million tax dollars to kill babies - THAT is the biggest abomination in that thing.
A nation that rips arms and legs off of little bay boys and little baby girls has bigger problems than a leaky border.

I was a big Paul Broun supporter also. Perdue was about my last choice. He has turned out to be much better than I expected. 1000% better than Chambliss.

Ultimately, of course, the question is decided by the USSC not some lower court.

The Supreme Court is not the final arbiter and you should know that.

Speaking as one who is at least as pro-life as you may be, take 22 minutes to watch the link I provided in my last post first, then write me back and tell me if your mind has changed.

Can’t believe that the SOB RINOs comprehend embarasment. For that one has to have some degree of self worth and integrity. These thugs have none!

OK, I'm about 1/2-way through. Very interesting - will hold fire, (but leaving one in the chamber...)

The Supreme Court is not the final arbiter and you should know that.

It is dishonest of you to pretend I refer to a simple arbiter when we are discussing the supreme judge of the law of our land; but, that is your problem, not mine.

You know something . . . the Seventeenth Amendment removed the states from the impeachment procedure. So now the trial of any so charged official is in the hands of Senators who are beholden to special interests who are anti-American for the most part.

Of course, the President at the time that amendment was rammed through, Woodrow Wilson, also once wrote that “socialism and democracy are almost, if not quite, one and the same”; so he worked to transform the USA from a republic into a democracy, via that amendment in particular.

But he gave Ttrump all this money to spend .
And he can spend it anyway he wants .
I am thrilled it passed .
Go Pres Trump

I think I’ll have a yard sign made up
And maybe a bumper sticker
That says

The Democrats have failed us
Never trust them again

It’s very generic and May get people thanking

They have failed the blacks
They have failed the dreamers

And so forth

Shaking my head at the excuses used to vote for this bill, to sign this bill and hearing talk about how the President will control what gets spent where in the bill.

So true, but a Kentuckian will punch you in the face for saying that!

The only thing that would embarrass McC and his hapless Kentuckians would be Mitch’s net worth dropping below $10 million.

“The people who think the Democrats have not failed them is the American people!”

Well most blacks here are Americans
and we need them to not trust dems.
Pres Trump did a great job of getting people to
change from voting dem to rep/him.

Every vote changed is a count of 2.

Adds 1 for rep and removes 1 for dem.

There are a lot of hispanics here in Calif
who are Americans. And a lot of blacks.

We want to keep that working for us.

They already have doubts.
They can see dems lack of effort.

Blacks saw dems efforts for the DACA people
and were not happy.

Now hispanics see their lack of effort
to get anything passed.

That is a lot of votes we could at least try for.
