I'm a Jersey kid. I can't vote. Here's what you can do about gun violence
Newark Star-Ledger ^ | March 23, 2018 | Zachery Dougherty

Kids are typically expected to take a back seat when it comes to national politics and policy, but with what's going on right now that cannot happen any longer. I'm 16 years old, I'm a junior high school student, I cannot vote. That does not mean I can't do anything. It's time for students, everywhere, across the country, whether you're in a blue state or red state, to get involved, to speak up in your own local communities. It's time that students have this conversation at the dinner table with their parents and let them know that enough is enough!

Best argument for 2A yet was a reminder to me that at the time 2A became guaranteed in America, the citizen’s weapons were as every bit as proficient, efficient and deadly, as those of the US government. Weapons were expected to be just as powerful as any threat might produce.

Imposing on the 2A, by slowly introducing over time incremental intrusions against any citizen’s weapon, against it’s style, shape, load, power, adjustment, etc., only reduces the safety of the citizen, while government weaponry increases in power features, leaving them at the mercy of rogues with bigger and better.

We’re getting rolled.

Kids should ask ‘why are kids my age going around shooting up schools?’

EXACTLY!
Instead, they blame the NRA. Convenient bogeyman. Convenient target.

...That was my first assigned arm as an ammo truck driver for the Service Battery of a 105mm Armored Artillery Battalion...

Dad was on a 105 battery in the South Pacific. Later it was a 155.
He went deaf in his left ear from that.
The M1 Carbine was the Artillery issue then too.

How time flies — Wasn’t it just two months or so ago that we were trying to figure out what could be done to keep them from eating Tide Pods?

These anti-gun ignoramuses do not think about the fact that there are MILLIONS of gun owners and they are not running around killing people. If gun owners were the vile human beings that they are purported to be by the anti-gunners this country would truly be a hell hole.

Anti-gunners stop demonizing your fellow citizens and neighbors.

I’m 16 years old, I’m a junior high school student ........................... I had several 16 yr. olds in my 9th Grade class. When I was drafted, one of them showed up in my duty station as a recruit. It was about a year after I left the school.

16 is a little old to be a JHS student. Taught JHS for 36 years. Had maybe 2 16 year olds.

They would’ve flunked a grade, right?

Age 16 would normally be at least 10th grade.

Here is a little something I posted on the NYT opinion FB page. Talk about making Heads Explode!

“Now let’s see if we get this straight. The kids in school inflict torment on a student beyond his breaking point. Instead of going home and hanging himself in the closet like a good little boy, he gets a gun and return to inflict torment on his tormentors.
Now those surviving tormentors are demanding guns be taken away so kids they torment in the future will not come back to exact their pound of flesh.

Strange how we all cheer when CARRIE (1976) burns down her school killing all her tormentors,
If she had gone home and came back with a rifle and cleaned house would we still cheer?”

It sent the readers into a tizzy! I loved it.

Yes, it would be nice if parents explained the purpose of the 2nd Amendment to their teenage children.

The 2nd Amendment protects the entire "free world" from totalitarian governments.

Perhaps he meant that he’s a “junior” (a.k.a. 11th grade) high school student. But I’m more inclined to assume he’s just a moron who needed a couple of “do-overs”...

Well, when Zachery comes of age, he’ll see a great majority of New Right voters in the nation around him. If he holds on to that position, he’ll be pretty lonely. Word from some New Right (alt-lite or whatever) media leaders on a tsunami of messages they’ve received from much younger peers, some as young as ten.

They’re different. They don’t trust the non-analytical adults. They analyze and form their own opinions and rebel quietly, between each other. They’re much more educated, and they’re flying their opinions right under their teachers’ and parents’ noses.

And we’ll note that Zachery is in New Jersey, of course.

I'm 16 years old, I'm a junior high school student,

So the kid is intellectually impaired/slow/retarded? By 16 I was half way through high school, not still stuck in junior high.

Good catch!

I wondered how such a well-indoctrinated skull full of mush like him could flunk a grade, not to mention how unusual it is to flunk a grade at all in today’s schools.

Hey Mr. Jersey genius. The kids in high crime communities can't even get their parents to go to PTA meetings much less have dinner together every night.
