I also had to go to detention for a week cuz my homeroom nun wouldn't turn on the radio....so I disappeared and one of my teachers snuck me in their room.

Don't be. Eisenhower let the USSR go first because he wanted them to establish the precedent of orbiting over enemy territory. They could not then complain about spy satellites passing overhead.
