Trump signing spending bill despite earlier veto threat

Update: President Trump announced that he is signing the spending bill as a "matter of national security." But he also said, "there are a lot of things I’m unhappy about" in the measure.

Earlier report

Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump appeared set to back down and sign a sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and avoid a government shutdown, according to senior legislative aides.

In a morning tweet, Trump said he might veto the omnibus bill because it does nothing to address the fate of young undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” and does not fully fund his border wall.

There’s nothing “conservative” about this (conservative with a small “c”). A conservative doesn’t do rash things, like signing a bill only a few hours old.

How would this bill be any different if the dems controlled all three branches? It wouldn’t.

President Trump staged a stupid ceremony in the Rose Garden when the House passed a half-assed ObamaCare repeal bill last spring.

Then he went to the U.S. Senate a couple of months later and told them they had to improve on the House bill because it was "too mean."

Anyone who thought Donald Trump was going to take a principled stand against Republicans in Congress on anything of substance hasn't been paying attention.

Disgusting! Republicans do not know how to win, let alone govern. We may as well put Bernie in the White with Schumer and Pelosi running Congress.

Funding for wall cannot be used for new construction - just replace fence that’s already in place

CONGRESS has the right to defund sanctuary cities and Planned Parenthood.
This is a stunning betrayal. Time to find a real conservative challenger to this ass. You don’t lie to your base and get away with it.

I do blame them. But Trump was put in place b/c so many are fed up with these bills, the deficits, the out of control spending, etc.

Trump was elected to go to DC and say NO MORE.

No sh*t. He won’t “never sign” again?? You got pushed around. And he’ll be pushed again. Now they know his weak points.

I wont go and say “I wont vote for him 2020”. But I think he got to the breaking point and understandably, he’s under attack 24/7 with betrayal even from his own party.

It’s easy for us to give up but I can see he’s on edge as is..

"I'm not going to sign anything like this in the future."

That might be one of the dumbest things ever to come out of the mouth of anyone sitting in the White House. LOL.

We all know damn well that he'll sign the same damn bill in October 2018 to keep the government running after the end of the current fiscal year.

Why do you admire Pelosi, Schumer and the rest of the swamp creatures?

Why do you hate America?

The Day "Build The Wall" became Trump's "Read My Lips, No New Taxes"

Never thought I'd see the day Trump got rolled like a Bush.

I think people may not understand how bad the military is down and we may need to use it soon.

Blame the Republican primary voter. Not enough challengers either.

No, I blame The Donald

Same old same old.

This is not the hill to die on
We need to maintain focus and not get bogged down on social issues
You have to understand how the game is played
and now, 3d chess

No problem, though, debt as far as our great grandchildren can see, queers shutting down businesses that won't approve of their perversion, wages still several decades behind the cost of living, tens of millions of illegals still roaming the country, infants still slaughtered by the hundreds of thousands each year, only a very minor part of the border wall funding in the spending bill but planned parenthood taken care of, . . .

And still, after four decades of "Conservatives" preaching how to turn the country around, we slide further down the toilet and have yet to encounter a single, "hill to die on"

Proven once again: If voting could change anything, it would be made illegal.

I give up.
